I see we are both guilty of failed cross-posting…

Still my interest is actually more to do with it having some very cool squadron scale (squadron as in a squadron of capital ships and not squadron of fighters) type mechanics than it actually being Starwars.

It has commands assigned to ships, which is very reminiscent of BFG/ACTA and something I think works better at this scale that say energy allocation (or abstractly simulates that).

There are also 4 shield/weapon arcs, which will encourage maneuver.

Miniature wise they look great. I love fighters done up in small squadrons.

Very cool. Missed the original link.

@Tim White: Just trying to keep the discussion linked for all; not meant to be a criticism.

I too am interested in how this plays. The inertial movement tool is interesting. Not vector, of course, but it fits the source.

Very cool. Missed the original link.

As did I; I know many follow the front page assiduously, but I jump to specific boards slightly more oft.

Thanks to you both!

Pretty hefty price tag…

I'll wait to see in the store, but probably won't be able to resist. ;->=

I love fighters done up in small squadrons.

Amen to that!

You still have the really broad groupings of ship classes a la WotC's version. Even when the clases are not meant to be to scale with one another, we still have the opening scene from Star Wars to remind us of how much an imperial star destroyer has to fear a Correllian blockade runner. grin

I'm interested in this. I'm not big on fighter centric games, so this may be good for me. Maybe even just for the minis.

I doubt I'll be able to resist this…it's a shame it won't be out for Christmas this year though…

Just gives you a lot of extra time to come up with Spaceballs 1.

Maybe able to add ships with ships from bergstrom.

I for one am heartily tired of building 1/270 fighters *L* It will be nice to be able to design some smaller scale capital ships

Fantasy Flight announced the rest of the Wave 1 ships for Star Wars Armada at GenCon. They include a Gladiator class Star Destroyer, Assault Frigate Mk II, Imperial Fighter pack and Rebel Fighter pack.

Nice to see all the standard rebel fighters coming out right away!

The more I've read about the game the more interesting it seems. While I'm more of a hard SF than a Star Wars fan these days I can live with the setting if I get a system that is reasonably crunchy yet approachable for "common gamer".

After having absorbed as much as possible from different Gencon sources I put my thoughts down in an article on Fire Broadside: link

Definitely agree about the fighters, and I like that you can customize and have aces in them. Reminds me of Jovian Chronicles.

Now, more news and previews please!

@Fire Broadside

Great blog post! I'll direct my less than zealous space gaming buddies there.

I think you hit a bit nail on the hammer with the reference to the "common gamer". I have a closet full of space games I love but can't convince anyone to play. Given how popular X-wing is, I am hoping that there will be no shortage of local opponents for Armada – a game which has some reasonably crunchy rules (yay to 4 shield directions too!).

Fire Broadside21 Aug 2014 9:24 a.m. PST

Thanks Tim!

Yeah, I've got loads of spaceships and spaceship games lying around, but it's still very much a niche kind of game. Probably the most popular and mainstrem game we've had so far is Battlefleet Gothic when that was around. These days it might be Firestorm: Armada. But that's nothing compared to the reach that this game will have I think.
