That sound reasonable and wise.

C'mon Bill, don't flap around with some pants idea of democracy on TMP.

Democracy and votes are wasted on those who choose the wrong choices.

I've got to agree. If we've got to refer to the difference, how about "Female Form"?

With all the rubbish that's been thrown about on this site recently, isn't it about time we dropped ALL of the male chauvinistic attitudes.

I'm fine with it staying as is.

After all, with it titled as it is you already know what to expect here.

Zargon03 Aug 2014 1:41 p.m. PST

Really why? No really give us a reason as to why something that is so innocuous as the word Boobies as opposed to the stock in trader words on the site such as Kill, Death, War. Ad nauseam.
We talk and revel in the art of warlike subjects and you lot get pasty over a word that describes the female of the species mammerys.
What's another word for shrivelled up plumbs guys.
And for you lot who are complaining about the NSFW labels . Either do some work or block it.
Bill its a very slippery slope. What should you change next huh the TMP label? Does that offend some one?

I think it should be merged with the Wargaming Spouses board. Then we could call it Wargaming Spouses Need More Boobies. That couldn't possibly cause any problems could it? grin

I have a curious fascination with this board

I can't see why any (boy) over the age over the age of 15 would want to paint one up, and they are generally expensive

Usually the poses are bad, the sculpting is questionable and the accessories and outfits are bizarre – the comments are where the fun comes in. It all makes me think of Beavis and Buthead

So I think the title is completely appropriate. But maybe we could change it to

"uh-huh uh-huh Naked people"

'I can't see why any (boy) over the age over the age of 15 would want to paint one up, and they are generally expensive'

cheaper than real ones and easier to get hold of.

I like the board name, it hearkens back to an era of TMP, that was a simpler time. When everyone got along and loved this running joke. :)))))))))

darthfozzywig03 Aug 2014 9:54 p.m. PST

The request has never been "delete the board!" or "no nudity! That's dirty!"

It's been very consistently stated as "please change the name to something less juvenile; the content is fine."

It's only a few (apparently angry) folks who insist on conflating those two different ideas in an effort to paint a reasonable request as somehow prudish or infringing on their right to look at nekkid minis.

Ironwolf03 Aug 2014 10:18 p.m. PST

Why is it some people feel the need to change something they don't like and don't plan on participating. If you don't like the name, then go to the setting options and remove it from your display!!!! Don't be pushing your dislikes onto me!

tkdguy04 Aug 2014 12:08 a.m. PST

There have been calls on the TMP Talk and TMP Poll Suggestions boards to delete this one, not just rename it. I personally don't have a problem with this board or the name. There may be another poll about changing the name. Time will tell.

On behalf of the (few) females on this forum, I'm thinking of canvassing for a thread entitled "We Need More B--" … OK, maybe not …

Patrice04 Aug 2014 4:17 a.m. PST

I made an off handed joke….that became a Poll topic that was voted on and passed……so it became a board….so yes I very very much regret what was a joke, that went horribly wrong…
So you are responsible for the sin, but we are told that all of us who don't want changing the name must bear the guilt of it? :)

Porthos04 Aug 2014 4:26 a.m. PST

I find hypocritical puritans, who have absolutely no problems with any violence but complain about bare female breasts simply disgusting. If they want to remove a board because it disturbs them, let they instead remove themselves please. As a staunch liberal (in the European sense) I WILL allow them to comment (I am after all free to ignore them), but I do NOT want to allow them to interfere with the kind of information I like to see. This board is, at least for me, not only a source of fun. It is also a source of learning. To notice how expert painters show how to paint something really difficult: natural looking skin !

So, all you puritans or whatever, complain as much as you like, but do not touch our boards !

olicana04 Aug 2014 5:26 a.m. PST

Porthos, with respect, you are missing the point.

I don't think anyone wants the board removed. I think it's just a matter of showing respect for the female sex by calling it something less obviously sexist.

I suggested "Female Form" because it is a generally accepted phraseology for a woman's body shape, especially in art.

I know which my mum would have preferred, and it's not "needs more boobies".

The human body is a beautiful thing.

Photo blocked by adult filter:

It is infinitely expressive; one could devote lifetimes to capturing its many moods.

The body comes in many shapes and sizes -

- and two sexes.

Each artist puts something of himself or herself into figural art; it takes years to become proficient, and a lifetime to master. Should we not respect the skill of the artists (and models) who have worked so hard to give us so much? I don't believe that giving the board so juvenile a title is doing anything to elevate our discussion.

I realize that the facet of the arts here under discussion is commercial, not academic; the level of creative intent is not always the highest. It doesn't always have to be. I also realize that maybe ninety per cent. of the readers here don't think too often about where their little sculptures come from, or what makes some of them better than others.

Let me be frank. Calling my objections "prudery" is deeply insulting to my intelligence. I have taken instruction in figure drawing (and continue to attend classes when I can). There is nothing salacious about the process of figurative art – but there are a number of reasons why fourteen year old boys are seldom invited to join in. Let us then behave in a manner becoming to our years.

Why do some TMP folk constantly fail to read and understand the message and instead answer a question they think they have been asked? It's a wind up, surely?

Read the OP and understand it. Keep your naked females board just change the Bleeped text name!!!

KTravlos04 Aug 2014 9:14 a.m. PST

For fraks sake for the final time :We do not want to eliminate the board you people enscrolled in fallacy. We just want the name change. "Needs more Boobies" may be funny, but it also can be alienating. Are you telling us you would rather have fewer people come to TMP as long as you can keep a second rate joke going? I mean what exactly the issue if we rename it to

"The Female Form in Miniature"
"Art or Porn?"
"Female Figurines"

cazador04 Aug 2014 9:58 a.m. PST

Need more Bleeped text…???

Thought not, since it doesn't sound so good when 'bleeped'

cazador04 Aug 2014 9:58 a.m. PST

Told you….

Patrice04 Aug 2014 11:36 a.m. PST

I mean what exactly the issue if we rename it to "The Female Form in Miniature" (…) "Female Figurines"
Hey that would be sexist too! unless you also create a board named "The Male Form in Miniature", or "Male Figurines"…

In our pirate games I often include a female Non-Player Character, the niece of the Governor, and "because of the hot Caribbean climate" she suffers of nymphomaniac fevers that urges her to spend some time (I mean, imagined in the game) with (players) ship captains at any moment in the game, and players love it :)
Then one day one member of our game group complained that it was not to his taste… he is gay. So in the next game, in the scenario I invented that the Governor also had a nephew… :)

More seriously: I am uneasy with naked female miniatures out of understandable context: I mean, I like to buy and paint a few half-naked female miniatures if I think they give more personality to the background of the game and have historical reasons to be there; otherwise I don't believe in women fighting naked if they can avoid it, so I don't like that.

And I have no objection against the name of this board, I think it is funny …but English is not my first language and (male or female) friends looking at my computer screen won't be shocked by it; but if US/UK/etc TMP members do really have a problem with it you can change the name if you need I have no objection.

John the OFM04 Aug 2014 11:49 a.m. PST

If we let the puritanical minority have its' way,

Several objections to that.

1) What makes you think it's a "minority"?

2) Apostrophe abuse. The possessive form of "it" does not have an apostrophe.

3) Even the most fervent hater (now banned) of the name of the Board had no issue with the Board itself, just the stupid juvenile name. I would have no problem with changing NMB to the "NSFW* Board" and keeping everything else, but I do think that "Needs more Boobies" reeks of 14 year old humor.
The name of the Board makes TMP look even dumber than we really are. grin

*NSFW = Not Safe for Work. Many employers object to you wasting your time looking at nudie pictures when you should be working. grin (But apparently not the US Government, but that's veering into Blue Fezzie territory.)
One of my idiot employers called me into her office on my first day to inform me that my "predecessor" had been fired for surfing online porn. Her definition was rather all-encompassing.

Why do we need a board that focuses on only one type of figure?

My sister paints 54mm & similar figures of all types, from many different makers. Some are male, some are female; some have clothes, some don't (yes, gentlemen, some of the MEN are stark b … er, naked – and with all their bits!!). She refers to them by their makers' names, or as "figures".

When we want to talk about specific models, why can't we do that on other appropriate boards, by period, or maker, or sculptor, for example?

Am I missing something here?

Then again, I know some people who refer to any figures not in full military uniform as "civvies" – male or female, clothed or not; should we then have a "Need More Civvies" board?
