It's been quite a bit of time I posted here. A new job limited time for my favourite period: age of sail, 18th century, 1/1200 scale. I managed to complete stuff for a harbour scene. Bunch of houses, shipyard, docks etc. – mostly Langton stuff. Setting will be related to the Atlantic. Before basing all this I wanted to give the products of terrain mat a try. In my eyes they look promising and I was eager to see if they would fit for my actual and future projects.

18 weeks ago I ordered a seascape, an island and a coast section, just for the beginning. And know I'm waiting …No delivery, no response on my emails.

Has anyone had contact with the folks of terrain mat? On the website they state that they are busy: terrainmat.com . But after 4 month without response I start getting nervous.

Would love to learn that they are just in work up to their hairs and that there is still hope to get my goodies.

Regards,
Aquarius.

Same issue with HOTZ mats. 18 months and no mat. Both sites are a rip.

I've ordered 4 times from Hotz Mats. It has taken awhile, 8 to 10 weeks, but has come through with great mats.

Can't say anything about Terrain Mat.

Our club just got a large order from Hotz. Took awhile, but nice stuff.

Hotz took $80 USD from me about 2 years ago. No mat. He won't even respond to my e-mails. You are taking a chance ordering from him.

Yes, I have been burned by HOTZ mats too. Will not recommend him at all.

I have ordered from Terrain Mat four or five times over the past five years and, while there was a four or five month wait every time, the product has always arrived in the end and I have always been pleased with the result.

When I ordered from Terrain Mat early '13, they warned it might take a few months. A few months later I contacted them – supposedly my stuff was going to ship real soon. A couple months later again, I wrote again, and now apparently my order had been forgotten and they hadn't even started on it. It was some months more before the order finally arrived.

So don't order anything you need in a hurry I guess. Judging by my experience, they're not trying to rip anyone off, but they're not fast and they seem to be a bit disorganized.

I've ordered from Terrain Mat before as well – same story, took many months and several requests, but did arrive. Can't say I was that happy with the mat – the finish was good but not that durable around the edges. The textured surface tended to peel away from hard plastic backing. But the roads and rivers were fantastic.

Tricky situation, I'm guessing it's not the full time job of the owners – but good communication goes a long way. Good luck with your order.

Thanks for all this feedback!

As I'm still in my 5th month … there might be some hope to finally get hands on my products.

I will give you a notice about the status from time to time.

Best of luck.

Just to keep things positive ;) here's a link to the one I purchased – was for DBA – you can see what I mean about the rivers and roads – mat looks good in this too. link

Thanks Alan.

The river- and road-elements fit nicely to the mat. In total a uniform, natural look giving room for a vast number of setups.

Marko,

very important: the link you referred to has nothing to do with the people of terrain mat! But you are correct, the dioramas displayed by TM Terrain are outstanding.

By the way: still no delivery no contact … (by terrain mat).

I know it has nothing to do with Terrain Mat.I was just alerting people to someone who does incredible work.He did a section of Ft. William Henry for me and It is outstanding.
