For those who aren't familiar, Renaissance Miniatures is a local company (to me anyway) that is currently doing an interesting Kickstarter link They make a lot of interesting terrain using laser-cut wood. The proprietors (Steve and Renee) are super nice and showed me their laser cutters as well as giving me the dime tour of the whole design and manufacturing process. He gave me a couple of models which I took home and immediately assembled. The models are pre-painted which is very cool. Being the inveterate tinkerer that I am, I did do some work on the two carts he gave me, but it wasn't needed, they looked fine as is. The only thing I did for the small ship model was put some paper sails on it. Otherwise it is as you would get it if you bought it. Here are some pictures of my swag from the trip.
Here is the boat he gave me. Since it was an unpackaged freebie it was sans directions, but it was easy to figure out how it went together.
The two-wheel cart is nice and useful for a number of gaming periods and genre's. I opted to turn mine into a hay cart as I had some fall field grass laying around.
Last but not least was a broken version of the two-wheel cart. It comes in a charred black normally but I repainted it mostly because I wanted to play with a weathering process to char the wood using artist chalks. I will definately be dropping some money on their current Kickstarter tomorrow when I get paid. |
