Just been pondering this. How big is TMP, can stats be seen about the number of *unique* visitors per day, posts per day, topics per day? Every once in a long time someone will throw out I may just not know where to look or it might not be published, I'm just curious. Cheers, The Bandit |

I would agree with that its certainly not 38,000 members and the ones with ZZZZs are non active or locked accounts and I would be interested to see how many in the last couple of weeks since this crap started. I bet money its way down and the truth is being withheld. On that note this morning I noted that 3 of the new editors where no longer… 2 being Basic members now and 1 a supporting member. That has since changed to one moderator, 1 Basic and 1 supporting…very odd |

I have two accounts one for each business, so sometimes one goes dormant simply because I forget to change once in awhile. |

I've been looking at the stats, available here: TMP link Like all website / message board stats they are never really quite what you want. No big surprise. It appears there are about 150 topics created per day by 10,000 unique visitors. I wish it had a "posts per ____" stat as it'd be interesting to see how many posts are generated by the average visitor each day. Maybe it is there and I haven't seen it yet. I have no idea if people are leaving due to all the arguing on TMP Talk, gotta remember a large percentage of the members likely never visit TMP Talk and therefore would have no idea there is even an argument going on. Anyways, I am trying to get my head around the size of TMP which is the point of this thread. Cheers, The Bandit |

On that note this morning I noted that 3 of the new editors where no longer… 2 being Basic members now and 1 a supporting member. That has since changed to one moderator, 1 Basic and 1 supporting…very odd. And that is so important for you that you "had to " look it up…because ? Or did you read it "somewhere else"? The relevance of those facts escapes me. |
Bandit | 28 Jul 2014 10:18 p.m. PST |
Winston Smith, I think he's looking it up as he appears to be looking up the status of lots of different member accounts as of late. Anyways – back to the topic? Cheers, The Bandit |
Winston Smith | 28 Jul 2014 10:24 p.m. PST |
I have two active accounts , one Ony desktop and this one on my cell phone. Perfectly legal since no deception is intended. I do this only because I cannot remember passwords. There are a few accounts due to having different work computers and a few that WERE created back in the Bad Times whose function was to deceive but they are never used. Since I can't remember their passwords either… |
Winston Smith | 28 Jul 2014 10:26 p.m. PST |
I think he's looking it up as he appears to be looking up the status of lots of different member accounts as of late.
And, as I asked, why is that so important ? |
Inari7 | 28 Jul 2014 10:50 p.m. PST |
A majority of members of TMP are lurkers, and members who have no interest in the squabbles of the hardcore few here on TMP. Most will not realize that there is any problem with any members here. Only a few of us will even notice that members have left. And by a few of us that could mean a few hundred to a thousand. The other thousands of visitors will not even care one iota that some have left. |
Bandit | 28 Jul 2014 11:11 p.m. PST |
And, as I asked, why is that so important ? Couldn't tell ya, it'd be conjecture. Maybe General Brock will reply… As far as me wondering about the size of TMP it is kinda because of what Inari7 brings up – there is a lot of silo'ing where we all just go to our chunk and live there without ever interacting with the broader TMP environment so from my perspective I ponder where 38,000 users could hide because I spent all my time in 2-3 sections of the site and there sure aren't 38,000 of us on those… Which got me to thinking – just how big is the place, how much traffic does it see, what is the topic and post turn over like, etc… Cheers, The Bandit |

I do this only because I cannot remember passwords. John why not use the same password for each account? As you say they are not for nefarious purposes. Account names must be unique but not passwords. Or if you want them all to be different go with the same password but add a different sequential number to the end. Easy least to remember then. |
Deadmen tell lies | 28 Jul 2014 11:51 p.m. PST |
Bill said this – "She did apologize for that this week. I'll remind her on Monday and help her change it. She's been a bit busy, doing her regular work and training a newbie editor." So I went and checked the other night on it being changed "which it had not been" and noticed the symbols on the other editors had changed to TMP in square and on checking seen there stats had been changed to Basic and supporting. You state "or did you find it elsewhere" do you know of another place to find it John? I am unaware of it existing elsewhere except here. |

Wait a minute, you said Angel Barracks had filth on him because he went to a website you don't like, when you were pressed that you made a personal attack you said what you did was rude but not against forum rules. Now someone suggests that the webstats are off and you ban them? Cheers, The Bandit |

Who got locked out? I don't see any accounts on this topic locked out? Maybe we should have a list of locked accounts and why. I would suggest having TMP Talk turned off by default for new members with maybe a time limit before one can participate, kind of like what I think happens if one sugns in without an email? In another account, I had TMP Talk turned off for a long time and it really helps. Having been on usenet/discussion groups since 1995 (shorter than some, longer than most), I find it's really really easy to get wrapped around the axle over little things. Little things that a small number of nasty people usually start. Guf |

First, I apologise to John the OFM for misspelling his name earlier above, no insult intended. Second, I think some of us may be suffering under the heat or something and suggest that we hesitate before we respond to anything written that may appear contentious. This for the good of TMP. Thank you. |

General Brock: I would be interested to see how many in the last couple of weeks since this crap started. I bet money its way down and the truth is being withheld. Editor in Chief Bill: Thanks for the insult. I've locked your account. Bandit: Now someone suggests that the webstats are off and you ban them? Editor in Chief Bill: No, he is accusing me of withholding information. Mad McGobbo: Is that really a reason to ban him? Seems like a mighty big stick to beat a small dog with. Editor in Chief Bill: He can talk with me by PM, if he likes. Maybe I misunderstood him… Even if you didn't misunderstand him, why is that a reason to ban him? Of course there is information you're withholding, that may not be weird or wrong, he seemed to be referring to if you were not telling us about a revenue drop, since you don't normally discuss revenue it is not weird to conclude you'd withhold that information good or bad, heck I don't know that I'd publish it… What he said was critical of you but it was less a personal attack than what you said to Angel Barracks before he left. If one isn't then the other can't be either. I thought we could use the forum rules for guidance as to how to behave in them but they seem to be less and less useful as to knowing what will get people locked out or banned. Cheers, The Bandit |
Editor in Chief Bill | 29 Jul 2014 11:02 a.m. PST |
…he seemed to be referring to if you were not telling us about a revenue drop… There has not been a revenue drop. If you think about it, how could there be? It is too early. If an advertiser leaves, he pays up his bill before he goes. If a Supporting Member leaves, he usually waits until it is time to renew, then just doesn't renew. |

"I have two active accounts , one Ony desktop and this one on my cell phone. Perfectly legal since no deception is intended. I do this only because I cannot remember passwords." If you email Bill on this site he will kindly email your password to you. It's something I have always appreciated about TMP. No need to remember anything at all or to run the risk of people wrongly ascribing low motives to your multiple identity. Anyhow OFM/Winston hope you find this helpful and I won't derail this thread further. |

Thanks for the link to the forum statistics. You've got to wonder why some of the fora aren't closed down and the topics folded into other appropriate fora? I mean 0.7 threads a month in PoW? I was also surprised by the lack of threads in the areas I hang out (mostly Napoleonics) – do those numbers include cross-posting? As to the overall stats re membership – I suspect that there are a relatively small number of people who post regularly, a bunch of people who post once in a blue moon, and a lot of people who just lurk. And how many more who are dead accounts who are never likely to post again. Judging by traffic to my blog from posts on TMP – when I post pictures of painted figures I get about 300 views from TMP in the first month and then a trickle after that. When I posted somewhere other than my normal stamping ground my hits went up to about 1000, and when I posted pictures of Salute (with a fair bit of cross-posting) I got about 1800 hits in a few days. Interesting topic… |

I can't believe General Brock got locked for that. As discussed on another thread the insult wasn't directed at anyone in particular so therefore it doesn't fall under the Personal Attack rule. Or have I misunderstood the rules again? |

As discussed on another thread the insult wasn't directed at anyone in particular so therefore it doesn't fall under the Personal Attack rule. Or have I misunderstood the rules again? I don't know, Bill just said in another thread that I'm asking questions like these because: maybe he's trying to prove the Frothers theory that there's some strange conspiracy and the editors don't actually work. Regarding your understanding of the rules, as of the last ~5-7 days they seem open to very broad interpretation. Cheers, The Bandit |

Really don't get all the fascination with the business side of TMP (aka, Bill's business).
