Uniforms of the American Revolution by John Mollo shows them as light blue, framed with yellow with white piping.

According to Chartrand's osprey book on French troops on the AWI yellow breeches were worn by the hussars of the Volontaires etrangeres de la Marine. They sent a contingent to serve with LL.
Scarlet breeches were worn by Lauzun's Legion Hussars.
Both had lancers so if you want a spectacular unit you can't go wrong.

Chartrand also says that they "lost" their pelisses before Yorktown. That implies that LL had them earlier. VeM is not pictured with them and nothing is said about them.
What the heck. If you bought hussars with pelisses instead of real LL paint them sky blue with yellow facings, just like the dolman.

And get Chartrand's book too.

Chartrand also implies that both contingents had lancers so scarlet vs yellow breeches does not differentiate lancers.

And the fur on the pelisses should be white.

The best source is the small paper (with illustrations) by E.Leliepve. According to him the hussars and lancers of the Legion de Lauzun were clad like the staff companies (compagnies génerales) of the Legion de la Marine, i.e. scarlet beeches, Scarlet "fur" on their pelisses, scarlet border on their mirliton. Dolman, pelisse and saddle cloth were sky blue, the latter with yellow border. Their trumpeters wore trcorne hats and a complete different uniform: king's blue coat with royal embroidery. The uniform of the officers showed many differences: all "strings" on dolman and pelisse were golden, their pelisses white with real fox brown fur, and they wore light brown busbies with red/gold rimmed bags.
This is how I paited my Lauzun cavalry some years ago. Have a look at my blog:

So we've narrowed the fur on the pelisse down to yellow, white or red? Maybe that's why they gave up wearing them – too many arguments about how to accessorise.

It seems that every "reliable" source has a different idea. 8:)
