This was one of two scenarios I ran at Historicon this year on Thursday afternoon, using the Galactic knights ships and rules:

Excellent! Don't know the system, though do know OF the system, and thoroughly enjoyed your report. I find convoy escort scenarios difficult to design well, but believe should be regular play. Kill the other fleet gets old. Normally, I just assume a meeting engagement is 'escort at a distance'. Should be a followup battle, though that tends not to happen. Must cogitate more! Doug |

Thanks, guys. I agree, an occaissional head up fleet battle is OK, but like "wet" navies, battles (presumably) would usually happen for a reason – defending a planet, wormhole, ship yard, convoy, raiding etc. I have three more Galactic Knights scenarios/freports comming over the next few weeks as I write them up! |

Open-space fleet battles are fun, but crippling your opponents logistics (convoys, supply ships, bases, production facilities) can be more devastating in the long run. Most of the time, is there really a reason to fight very hard in a deep space battle? Unless you are trying to keep the enemy from penetrating your lines to get to a target you must defend, it mainly results in a battle of attrition (which can be useful, but are rarely decisive battles). |
