"Just because Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine is fictional doesn't mean it's immune to the effects of climate change. This map shows how, in the past 110 Galactic Standard Years, Tatooine has turned from a sprawling, desert wasteland into an even hotter sprawling, desert wasteland. It comes from Tatooine's first Intergovernmental Report on Climate Change, written by 23 droids (not really) and a human named David Ng, a molecular biologist from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Ng is in cahoots with several other science writers who are using Tatooine as a device to teach real world science. Fantasy science on a fantasy planet. This should probably go to Fez land. |

Maybe it should go on a Fantasy Board. |

It's starting to get a little scary how many folks are using fictional devices to teach real world issues. I mean the Centers for Disease Control idea of using a zombie plague to teach people about emergency prep was a novel idea, but if you blur the line too much won't you just end up with delusional people? |

With possible Fez-ness, don't we already have delusional people? |

Fantasy science on a fantasy planet. Well, it's better than fantasy science on a real planet. |

Perfect! Lots of sand on Tatooine for people to stick their heads in – just like on Earth. |
