I'm looking to cast a bunch of 28mm heads and would really appreciate advice on how best to do it. They'll be in a spin caster so can they go in individually or are they best on tabs? Also how many heads can I realistically get in a 9 inch mould? Thanks |

In general, the tabs for the heads will also be used to help the metal flow through the molds. So they are needed. If you run the tabs correctly, you should be able to get quite a few heads. The important thing is to make sure the metal can flow correctly. Matthew |

A 9" mold typically holds up to 15 28mm figures, depending upon poses. Companies like Empress which sell separate heads in their SCW range seem to use sprues. I think Pig Iron also do separate heads. |

On sprues is best, 3-5 heads per sprue probably. Depending on the size of the sprue, you should be able to get at least 30 heads in a mould easily. |

I have got 50 20mm heads in a 6in mould so in a 9in you should get quite a lot more, whether they all come out ok is a different matter. are you in the uk? |

@ Shaun, yes I am in the UK. Is it best to attach master castings to a tab for production casting? If so what would you recommend to attach the heads to the tab? Thanks again for the quick replies. |
