Well ?

nazrat22 Jul 2014 8:29 p.m. PST

I bought a pack of cobbled roads from Battlefront, about $100 USD worth of excellent 15mm Vietnam hooches from a new company sharing the Brookhurst booth, some Vallejo paint, the Battle Science rules and some Martian flyers from Bob Charrette at the Brigade booth, and half a huge box of Flintloque models in Wally's Basement (and for just $50 USD!!!). I also got a big bag of Crusader Dark Ages models from Age of Glory for a buddy who could not attend.

There was more but that is all I remember off hand.

Too much. A bunch of buildings and some vineyards from Battlefield Terrain Concepts (you know you spend too much at the place when they give you an embroidered company polo shirt to say thanks), three packs of AB Napoleonics from Eureka, the new Polish mini rules Fire & Sword with four boxes of Ottomans, John Hill's Across Deadly Fields, four bottles of the always hard to find GeoHex Green Howard Hues paint, the new GMT game Hoplite.

And my wife is an accountant.

I bought a full line of Perry's AWI Continental Dragoons and the plastic AWI Continental infantry. Also bought a few aircraft from MSD and I-94. I also picked up Decision Games RAF. Other than that, too busy running my own booth to get too much shopping done.

I also Bought too much. 2 LVT's, a lot of Metal LOTR figures,
and a pile of Pulp Figures for my Gunga Din Game

kallman23 Jul 2014 5:47 a.m. PST

Blizkreig 1/56 scale Panzer III J, box set of Perry WOTR Mounted Men at Arms and WOTR Mercenaries sets, plus a box set of plastic Norman foot troops (for my son) all from Architects of War. 1/56 scale T-34/76, Panzer IV G, and Sherman M4 from Warlord games, 4 packs of Crusader Miniature Late Crusade foot troops along with command and the rules for Chain of Command from Age of Glory, a couple of packs of captured natives from Eureka Miniatures, a European Village set from Paper Terrain in 6mm, then finished with more 6 mm buildings, a bridge, and roads for 6 mm from Battle Field Terrain Concepts, plus I picked up more desert hills from BTC.

I sold off the remainder of my 28 mm ECW collection at Walley's Basement and that allowed me to have my spending spree. There was so much more trouble I could have gotten into.

My son had an amazingly generous gift bestowed to him last year at Fall-In – several hundred hand painted napoleonic 18mm minis. He wants to be like his dad and be a 'game host' (he's 8) so I'm working with him on doing a basic game under the concept 'For Kids by Kids.' :D

Of course, being 8, not understanding the intricacies of Napoleonic warfare (he's gotten a couple of Osprey books to take a look at as homework), he figured a fitting opponent would be dragons, and I must admit I found that amusing – Dragons vs Dragoons. So we got a couple of toy dragons, and spent a lot of time at the con looking for appropriate terrain. He found a good deal on 3 piece manor house as Wellington's HQ, got various trees, escarpments, a large pond at Wally's Basement, several rock outcropping near the dragon's lair, a nice fountain, and was given a free toy castle by a generous individual that we plan on doing a paper mache mountain around. He'll have to paint the manor house, so we'll start practicing techniques there soon.

Unfortunately the paper mache just reinforced my wife's belief that her crafts hobby and my miniatures hobby are the same thing. I can't really argue as I keep on having to borrow her supplies. :D

Even hunting for deals and getting a couple of freebies that was $150 USD-200. For a game for my kid to run. Oh well, the joys of fatherhood. And he'll be very proud if he pulls it off.

Being my first Historicon, I was surprised how much restraint I had with purchases. Metaphorically, I didn't think my battle plan would last once I contacted the enemy AKA the dealer hall!

Most of my purchases centered on Bolt Action; The Pegasus Bridge set, a horsa glider, British Paras, a Puma, a handful of tanks, and then more additions to my North Africa set – troops for both sides and some of those Renedra buildings.

Besides that, it was mostly random purchases of stuff I have a hard time finding in my part of the world: Vallejo paints, grass tufts, 4ground buildings etc. Oh and awesome flags from the Flag Dude – chatting with that guy was a lot of fun!

The item I've spent the most attention on is a used book – my first Donald Featherstone book. Fascinating stuff, can't wait to buy more!

More interestingly, what did my 13yo son, on his first trip to Historicon, purchase with his limited funds?

* A generic DBA camp with ditch and spikes from the flea market.
* 3 15mm Roman tents from Blue Moon.
* A 25mm flea market hut for Dad's Dark Ages.
* The new Osprey Elite The Carthaginians 6th–2nd Century BC

I do believe we will have to paint those 15mm Roman and Carthaginian DBA armies I have…he was quite taken with the Roman/Gaul DBA 2.2+ demo games.

I picked up Jugula, Fireball Forward, flea market AK-47 militia, and a variety of Dark Ages terrain. I now have two (2) pig pokes! Yay for me!!

Gonsalvo23 Jul 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

Four Blue Moon 28mm wagons, "In Her Majesty's Name" rulebook and supplement (local guys doing games with same), a few second hand Ospreys, some dice, paint, and brushes. Was going to get some Perry British Napoleonics to add to my Waterloo projerct, but I started to do the order at the booth and then dedcided that I really didn't have enopugh time to do it carefully, and would be better off placing a amila order for same after the convention.

I really need to force myself to prepare a shopping list in advance. I was only able to attend on Friday.

I bought some AWI King's Mountain figures from Age of Glory, some Eureka AWI figures, and a few from GAJO as well.

Now I realize how many things I should have bought, but didn't at the time.

Sergeant Paper23 Jul 2014 1:30 p.m. PST

Resin buildings for Kaiju and Mech games, one 4Ground semi-built house for my cowboy town, ten velociraptors and three crocodiles, a couple packs of minions in jumpsuits with soft caps for 7TV, spherical magnets, Fireball Forward rules, and some 15mm North Africa buildings from PaperTerrain. Maybe some more odds and ends, I'll have to see when I finish unpacking.

Sergeant Paper23 Jul 2014 1:32 p.m. PST

I was going to buy more but I had to buy a new tablet while i was there, which took a chunk of the game budget.

I bought 7TV based on playing it at the con, but I bought the pdf once I got home.

The only big purchase I made, after telling myself for 2 days that I really shouldn't, was All Quiet on the Martian Front. The others were miscellaneous bits and pieces at the Flea Market, including an old edition of Featherstone's Naval Wargames, and some Heroics and Ross 6mm Franco-Prussians for portable wargaming.

jpipes24 Jul 2014 7:20 a.m. PST

Bought a bunch of stuff in the dealer area with funds I made from selling in the flea market (once again I sold off everything I brought with me to sell), and of course more stuff in the flea market. :)

Picked up some books and a few games in the flea market, 4 regiments of painted 15mm ACW, and a few 10mm buildings. Best find by far was a collection of super detailed, awesomely painted, and in some cases 100% customized Warhammer 40k Imperial Guard. I don't play W40k but I do dabble in scifi skirmish (though my first love is 15mm AWI/ACW so don't hate) so it was a great find. I picked up about 80 painted figures and 13 APCs and tanks. Just to give you an idea of the quality of this stuff, here are some pics of what I got. Simply stunning, and the prices were jaw dropping. I am very pleased.

75 more figs and 11 more vehicles along those same lines!

On a side note someone bought this guys GW Baneblade which apparently had some pieces that went to some of the stuff I got by mistake. If you or someone you know happened to buy a Baneblade or any GW stuff painted like these above at Historicon please contact me! Would love to get in touch and possibly make arrangements.
