Has anyone played the old Ambush boardgame with terrain and miniatures? If so any idea on the best way to modify the rules (movement etc) for a game like that? Thanks Simon |

Typically when we convert boardgames to minis games we just modify the movement/range data to inches in some logical cohesive manner. IIRC, each hex was 25 meters or 50 meters or some such in the old Ambush games – At 1/100 (15mm) the actual ground scale is 1' = 100', 1 yd = 100 yds, etc. That's a bit big for a true scale conversion. Unless you're using Musket Miniatures buildings or similar, the ground scale of most 15mm buildings is reduced somewhat. you could go with 5" = 1 hex or something like that. I don't remember the boards too much, so can't give you better than that at the moment – a big enough "hex" so that a building, vehicle, etc. fits inside it, but not so big that you need a gymnasium to play in. |

Thanks. If anyone has ever tried it then I'd be interested to get your thoughts. |

Conversation is straight forward enough – but for the ambush bit, if I recall correctly, the system uses some of the hex locations to trigger events and that may have included line of sight to the trigger, not just straight forward entering the trigger hex – though I may be wrong, it was a long time ago. |

Hmmm A game system I've enjoyed greatly, along with Cry Havoc… From boardgamegeek link Looks like either a 10mm or 6mm board conversion, with an implied hexed playing area (some areas seem obviously hexed, others not)? Singly based figures and what look like event markers as plain hex bases too… |

Yep – that was what piqued my curiosity. I've ordered a copy and will play first on paper to get the hang of it then want to try it out down at the club. |

I always found Nuts! by THW provided a very similar gaming experience to Ambush! If I recall, Ambush! uses Events in each of its scenarios where as Nuts! uses PEFs/Possible Enemy Forces. For example there was an Ambush! scenario where you had to make contact with a partisan. He would lead your squad to the objective. In Nuts! you could add the partisan into the PEF resolution table. So as your squad proceeds they may make contact with Germans or the partisan or it may be just the wind – just like in Ambush! With the latest version of Nuts!, there's now a section on interacting with civilians. Basically everything you can do in Ambush!, you can do in Nuts! |

I converted Firepower! to minis as per what Sundance posted. The scale of the hexes are somewhat smaller so it worked pretty easily. It is the rules that utilize the facing in the hex that are a bit more difficult to overcome but can generally be satisfactorily house-ruled. |
