Okay…Officially, I am not and will not be saying anything…YET.

But, for those of you who have been waiting patiently, along with those of you have been sending me threatening Emails, etc.

My hand is being forced, in the best possible manner, mind you and word will be out sooner rather than later.

So…give me a few weeks, let's say around August 15th and I will finally make the BIG ANNOUNCMENT regarding a certain book that you have been waiting for…and at this point probably thought was dead.

Broglie18 Jul 2014 10:19 a.m. PST

I did see from you blog that you are interested in 19th century campaigns.

Can you recommend any good books in English on the French invasion of Algeria 1830 please?

Regards

15th Hussar18 Jul 2014 11:31 a.m. PST

There are few books in English avail on the subject, especially relating to the initial invasion period.

I have listed my current French library as a starting point. PA refers to very old and rare PALLA ARMATA reprints, but many may be avail online via:

Archive.org and Google Books.

Before the list though, George Nafziger has translated the Prince d'Orleans classic book on the War in Algeria from 1835-39, Phil Kearney wrote a book as an attache' during a campaign in Algeria and the English translation of Beugeaud's Biography is replete with his campaigns in Algerian from 37-42.

Google Books is your friend, just enter name of a battle/campaign and a commander or (in)famous officer from said action and you should find at least some detailed accounts in English.

Happy Hunting!

What on earth is he on about? And should I give a ha'penny bit? Or is this just a very crude sales pitch from the opening pages of Marketing 101?

The Sikh Wars Book he has been working on.

Blimey. You do have to be impressed for someone who tackles a subject that obscure……..I am being serious. So easy to write another 1815 book right now…….cannot imagine primary sources are too easy for Sikh Wars…….that is what historians are meant to do…impressed!

Oh hang on. I now see this is an attempt to revive an earlier thread on this topic, only a few days' behind this.

Why not? We all do it. A message is dying a natural death (even though the poster replies to thank every respondent…which moves it back to the top). My lancers in cloaks met total apathy even though I thought my conversion work was brilliant (painting and photography was awful I admit) but I responded to everyone who did reply. Still languishes in obscurity

Bless you, may your work prosper……..

deadhead…Thank you for your comments.

Quite frankly I was unaware that a recent comment had been made, I replied to it with this link just a moment ago.

So YES, I will be making a major AND positive update about the Sikh War Source Book in less than 30 days from now…barring a major hurricane hitting Miami.

Please stay tooned!

Ragbones20 Jul 2014 9:18 p.m. PST

Andrew, looking forward to the release of your book!
