to you al Most of the French militairy letters start with division miliaire left upper corner a Is this to adress the comander in chief or what?

It is a territorial sector from the writer; should be followed with a town name. still in use.
They'd write that often, nothing to do with cinc.

there is a military postal service; not 100% when it started as such.

Not sure at all. they had couriers. My books are not with me.
they sure could use the very well organized thurn Und txis post in Germany and fr poste/coaches service; esp for not secret stuff.
Remember it all goes so much slower than now.
napo also had these telegraph chiappe lines for urgent messages.

la poste aux armees did not exist back then.
