I am working on some buildings for my 6mm gaming and wonder what you all like and don't like in your buildings. I am fairly new to 6mm so I don't have a good grasp yet of the pros and cons. Do you like tall or short buildings? Do you want your buildings to have a large footprint? Do you want to use the interior of your buildings or do they just block vision and lines of fire? Do you theme your buildings are do you have a wide variety? How many buildings do you normally use? Is your table full of buildings or do you just have a few to represent a settlement? What would you like to see in 6mm buildings that you don't see now? Any input is greatly appreciated. Sean |

Do you like tall or short buildings? Both. Do you want your buildings to have a large footprint? No. Do you want to use the interior of your buildings or do they just block vision and lines of fire? No interiors. Do you theme your buildings are do you have a wide variety? Variety (is the spice of life!) How many buildings do you normally use? A few. Is your table full of buildings or do you just have a few to represent a settlement? No mre than a 12" square area. |

Infantry and lateral ambush threats! Oh, wait. Sorry. My answers are about the same as MajorB, although I like to allow infantry teams to occupy buildings, usually denoted by placing the stands on the roof. I would love to have a couple of dozen buildings on the table, ideally. |

I normally do sparse, frontier settlements, but if I did a built-up area, my gold standard would be to replicate the style and density of the maps in the video game Syndicate Wars. |

And you do them very well MrAverage! |

A size smaller than my figures. ( work with 15's so around 10mm buildings are good for me). |

Man, I loved the entire Syndicate series, back in the day! I wish they would reboot and re-launch them. I'd agree that those maps would make BUAs for tabletop gaming. |

@MrAverage: I'm not familiar with Syndicate Wars. I will need to use my google-fu to find some examples. @14Bore: I am curious why you want your buildings to be smaller than your minis? Could you elaborate please? |

I have been working on some designs and would appreciate input from this group.
These are works in progress so I would like to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks. |

Those buildings look very nice, but they are very conventional. I think that there are a lot of similar ones already out there. Personally, I like Brigades sci-buildings which are very good. In the really great category are Angel Barracks buildings, and the old Snapdragon Terrain buildings which were the best. I'd love to see some inspired designs like those on the market again. |

@Logain: These are my first attempt. I will be working on more designs and will look at adding more detail and different designs in the future. I will look up Snapdragon's terrain for some inspiration. Angel Barracks does have some great stuff as does Brigade. |

Like I said those look good, especially for a first attempt. Here is the old Snapdragon web address, their Sci-Fi "Bunkers" were fantastic IMHO, but are no longer being made. moondragons.com I'd love to see more stuff like that. AB is the only one doing anything even close that I am aware of. |

I do like that middle east inspired flat roof look. Similar to the old Ork buildings from Space Marine and Titan Legions |

@Logain: Thanks for the link. I will check it out and see if I can be inspired. @Weasel: Those old Ork buildings were what I used as inspiration for these. I tweaked them a bit to be a bit less Orky. Thanks again for the comments. |

A vote for Snapdragon-style buildings – those recessed into terrain particularly, which are good for blockhouses or even eco-architecture. |

Vey much liked the old Snapdragon line … much of is OOP … but as noted Moondragon has some … |

Sean … you can get structures very much like those from a number of companies already in production … link link link Second City also has some, but they are currently out of stock – link |

Second City also has the old Drum models. link scroll down a bit. How about pod-city buildings? Take inspiration from Warmill, Sarissa, and other companies who have series of interlocking pods of varying sizes and connections between them. How about a completely alien style? All heights will be needed. Some buildings will unavoidably have a large footprint, eg. hangars. An interior is mostly useless in this scale, and should be represented by other means; however if it is a large structure such as link the space will be wasted if you don't use the interior. I have a desert theme currently, but will have to spread out to build up an SF collection; a spaceport or colony would need a theme, but in reality I live in a city which has only been here since 1864, and is already quite the anachronism stew. Sometimes even in the same building. I may have a varying amount of buildings on the table, but need many to maximise my scenario options. Your last question is far too dependant on scenarios to pick an exact size. An airport or spaceport, perhaps? With pit hangars for VTOL-capable ships? |

Thanks for the links Legion. Looks like I might be reinventing the wheel, but I'm not convinced of that yet. My intention will be to add some sci-fi details to my buildings. I'm hoping to have a lower price point than some of these and many of the other sci-fi options out there. I'm not certain of that yet though. Also, many of the companies are overseas and shipping to the US can make great models unreasonably priced when shipping costs are factored in. Thanks for the ideas and input. I have been working on some door and window designs. I have ordered some prototypes to see how they look in real life and will adjust my designs as needed once I see them. I may also start working on more alien looking designs, but quite frankly, I'm not sure I am good enough with the design software at this point to make a decent showing with alien designs. |

I got my order with the doors, windows, and building that I had printed.
I will be scratch building something to try out the windows and doors. I will post some pictures of that project. I think these turned out well and am pretty happy in general. I would love to hear your thoughts. More pictures can be found on my blog. link |
