Earlier today I posted a new tutorial on my blog showing how I made some simple explosion models for my 6mm North Africa project. These arn't Hollywoodesque fireballs but much more realistic (imho) bursts of dust and rock. Desert Explosion Markers

The technique I have used can easily be adapted to make bigger explosions for larger scale games.

Superb. I'm borrowing that idea when I finally have time to paint and model again.

Great minds think alike, and fools seldom differ.

I had a similar thought when I made these, only I used nails of various sizes glued to a coin with a glue gun, then painted with PVA and sand and gritted. Very quick to make and quite effective. We use them to mark units withdrawing – the craters mark units pinned / suppressed.

I like your version Olicana, they really look the part. Just looking at all those sharp looking nails pointing up has me breaking out in a cold sweat! I guess the added element of danger will make their use more interesting.
