Well I'm not an expert, but the original picture posted by Ukrainian social media definitely has a brick fence on the other side of a road, and it is quite close. The picture in Lugansk has much wider road and no brick fence as far as I can see. Anyway, leaving it all for the experts.

It's not a brick fence, it's the roof of a building. You can see the chimney in the video.

Barin125 Jul 2014 10:31 a.m. PST

that's why I'm talking about experts.
- much bigger trees on original video – they look several times higher, than the building itself, while your pics has them much lower and in different location.
-billboard right below the chimney on your pic, nothing on the video
- the building, marked with green arrow has a fence in front of it, stretching up to red brick building,no fence on the video.
We can go like this forever, I'm afraid….

I think the reference photos are just taken from Google maps, so not surprised things have grown up around it, but major features remain.

Barin125 Jul 2014 11:01 a.m. PST

the trees have grown, but the fence dried out. right? ;)
And marcin Luhansk picture doesn't have any of the features from Rabelias pic. Also, billboard will not be there forever, think this car model is relatively new. Therefore – no, this is not a real proof to me.

I believe the fence is still there, but obscured by some trees/bushes – you can see it between them.
Here's the photo of the same place from Google maps, similar to what I've sent – you can see those buildings and fence in the middle.

There is a bank. The road is up on the bank. The reference photo is from down the bank near to the buldings

Arguing over video "proof"?

It's obvious Russia bears responsibility for the shootdown, and it was either Russian regular forces, or Russian-sponsored separatists, who are openly recruited and trained in Russia, who did it.

Arguing about billboard specifics is a Russian propaganda tactic designed to obfuscate.

The really amusing aspect here is how loudly Russia was whining about the U.S. and other states supporting Syrian insurgents, as illegal measures designed to bring down a sovereign state. Now that the Russians are doing it themselves in the Ukraine, they have gotten a lot quieter about Western support to Syrian insurgents.

What I really think is amazing and sadly amusing is it appears some in the Russian government say it is the US's fault and the US wants' war with Russia !?!?!?! huh? huh? huh? huh? Did I miss a meeting ?!?

US State Department has today released this image:

picture

They say this indicates that multiple rocket launchers (MRL/Grad) have been fired from within Russian territory, and landed on Ukraine.

That's not necessarily saying that Russia has fired at Ukraine, although it might be a little difficult to explain how separatists took captured Grad launchers across the border into Russia, without their permission or knowledge, fired them, then crossed the border back into Ukraine…?

"…it appears some in the Russian government say it is the US's fault and the US wants' war with Russia"

Over the past five years Putin has found reasons to close down, one by one, all private, non-state media outlets.

Now that he controls the media, he controls how news is presented, how it is spun, and how it is analyzed. You may have noticed how three (foreign, non-Russian) RT presenters have quit in the past six months, saying they were tired of being told what was allowed to be said, and what was not allowed.

My grandmother once told me that a key difference between postwar, modern Europe and life under Nazi Germany was that average Germans (like my grandmother) in pre-war Germany never saw foreigners, never read foreign media, couldn't understand foreign broadcasts, and basically relied on what the (state-controlled) news organs told them. After a decade of that, Goebbels could pretty much feed them any lie he wanted to.

As far as news media, Putin's Russia is starting to develop a lot like Goebbels' Germany.

You mean Putin is just going back 25 odd years to the good old days Pravda days.

Local news earlier reported that AAIB confirmed that the aircraft had been brought down by rapid decompression, due to a large shrapnel field. They have not yet confirmed the size of the missile.
