James and I introduced Greg and John to the fun that can be had playing Spanish Civil War using Chain of Command on Thursday. My Falange took on his Steel Legion Communists in a delaying action.

Your games are an inspiration! I have been inspired to work on my 20mm SCW figs. I haven't decided on a set of rules. I know that CoC is popular. the supplement is great. I'm just not sure that level of combat fits with my vision of the SCW. Any thoughts? Thanks,
John |

Thanks John. I must admit that I get a lot from Chain of Command, but you have to accept that you are only using a platoon with a modicum of support. What sort of level of command are you looking at? At the next level of command up I know that some friends have had great games with Rules of Engagement. |

I'm thinking that at least Companies should be on the table if not battalions. Don't know anything about the RoE rules. Thanks, John |

Unfortunately, I don't either but I have friends who have used them for the Spanish Civil War. |

Scrivs – I've also really enjoyed your posts. SCW is one of my main periods so its always great to see interesting Battle Reports with well painted figures. I actually game Company level SCW using Peter Pig's Bayonet and Ideology Rules (BAIT) which the guys I play with at my club adore and between us we've got a lot of 15 mm figures and lots of terrain. Thanks to you interested in trying out CoC with what we have for a change. John Leahy – BAIT may or may not be your cup of tea depending on whether you like Peter Pig rules. Its also 15mm with several figures to a base (to try CoC I'm thinking of 1 base = 1 figure and then if I like it invest in single figures) but BAIT might work for your 20 mm set up. For me it does give a very SCW Company level feel. Anyway great to see other people gaming such a fascinating period. |

Thanks Aubrey, Actually you could also play Spanish Civil War with I Ain't Been Shot Mum using the Summer Special from 2004 SCW amendments. link You would need to modify them slightly for the recent version of IABSM, but that will be easy enough. |

Scrivs – not sure if the IABSM reference is for me or John Leahy. Personally, I'm aware of it and have heard good things but BAIT suits us perfectly for SCW Company level. For John it is another option he could consider and since Chain of Command and IABSM are both Too Fat Lardies rule sets might be the perfect rule set for him. Myself, I've been inspired by your postings to try Chain of Command but with what we've got to start with (lots of 15mm stuff based in multiples)before splashing out. However, the Empress website is drawing me in like a tractor beam so I might just have to get some 28mm as well (especially since I've remembered one of the guys at the club has some 28mm SCW figures already). Thanks again. |
