I have a bag of OG 25mm Sarmatian Infantry. Definitely supposed to be dark age. Mostly bareheaded, oval shield, and boots. Fairly generic,I thought with a shield swap they might work in a Pontic army or perhaps as Byzantine auxiliary. Any suggestions?

Just looked at them. You can use them as Southern Slavs, definitely. Bulgarians, early Russians and Serbians.

Spanish skirmishers for the El Cid era.

Why would they need a shield swap?
They are the same indigenous troops just different time

Well the shields look very late Rome to me.
