I was content until I saw this pic and it got me to thinking my lizards needed a Queen.

I couldn't find a figure that I liked for this role until Alxbates commissioned this beauty.

The figure was excellently sculpted and cast, and deserves a far better painter than me. Alxbates is a joy to deal with. Thank you!

For those of you who hate B&W and have to have their shows colorized.

Black and white is the only way to fly.

Yes, I prefer the B&W, too. Plus, it looks like these are pan-and-scanned for TV; I want to see the original widescreen shots. Haha!

Very nicely done.

Fun!

That's really neat.

Dear jpattern2,

Sorry, but no need for "pan-and-scan" until 1953 with the introduction of "Widescreen," and virtually never for a Republic Pictures product! I'm not sure they ever produced anything in Cinemascope/Vistavision/etc.

The classic Republic (and Monogram, etc) Serials were all shot in Hollywood standard 4:3 ratio--what you see is all there is.

Indeed, it is because 4:3 was the screen ratio for film, that's the reason television had the same ratio, at least until recently.

So, the B&W shots are already perfect, and I applaud Amalric's choice! Let's see more of same.

And when will you film "Jungle Jim And The Kosher Deli Ju-Ju?"

TVAG

jpattern212 Jul 2014 12:08 p.m. PST

Yes, TVAG, I'm enough of a film geek that I knew all of that. I was just making a (very weak) joke, building on "colorization." Keep me honest! thumbs up

And don't get me started on the eyeball-bending Cinerama. Hah!

>>Sorry, but no need for "pan-and-scan" until 1953 with the introduction of "Widescreen," and virtually never for a Republic Pictures product! I'm not sure they ever produced anything in Cinemascope/Vistavision/etc.<<

"Pan and scan" wasn't necessary until widescreen productions began to appear on television considerably later than 1953, But we all knew that there weren't any serials produced in widescreen, didn't we? :-)

>>The classic Republic (and Monogram, etc) Serials were all shot in Hollywood standard 4:3 ratio--what you see is all there is.<<

Actually, Monogram never produced a serial. They were mainly a "B" movie studio and were famous for "The East Side Kids/Bowery Boys", the later "Charlie Chan" films and many "B" westerns, including "The Three Mesquiteers" series.

Thank you for all the kind words.

Someone on LAF asked about the snake idol, it was a plastic Basilisk candy dispenser for the second Harry Potter movie.

More pics here;

The lizard men are a super easy conversion made from plastic GW skinks with Kroot arms. The kroot arms fit perfectly, like they were made for the skink bods.

I loved the black and white pics. The one that shows the snake altar actually looks like an old time monster effect in the B&W.

All I can say is the real life model that posed for that miniature, she can be queen of my jungle for a few hours – as long as she leaves her snake at home. But, shhh, don't tell the wife I said that. Don't think she'd understand.

Shots 2 through 4 reminded me of something done over on LAF a year or two ago.
