Hurray! They are up on the Perry webpage, they offer them in bearskins as well as 1815 campaign in helmet. This saves me the trouble of a not-so-convincing figure conversion. Now if they would only offer the Kingdom of Holland infantry, life would be very good. Wishful thinking. Jarhead |

Oh, who cares? They are only Napoleonics! Where is Washington Crossing the Delaware????? |
jarhead | 10 Jul 2014 6:57 p.m. PST |
Hi John: If the American Revolution is your fancy, then I'd much prefer a vignette depicting the assault on the Chew House at Germantown; or perhaps the Overseer collecting his squire's horse that Tarleton stole from a Tidewater plantation, following his surrender(it is said he was so shaken that he dismounted from the wrong side); or better yet, General Sir Henry Clinton (The Guards General himself) sitting at his desk composing yet another ambiguously useless correspondence to the gallant Cornwallis, whom had already surrendered . In some ways, near the end of hostilities, it could be said that Clinton was the best soldier in the Continental Army. Jarhead |

Yes why are we talking about Washington. Every Englishman knows the War of the Roses is much more interesting. |

I follow Perry Miniatures releases with great interest and get very excited when something new is put out. I've got Wars of the Roses, AWI and Napoloeonic armies -not one of these armies contains any Perry Miniatures -??? Well actually they do but it's their Foundry sculpts… |
deadhead | 11 Jul 2014 12:27 p.m. PST |
Mashrewba, may one ask why not? In all seriousness, do you think there is something wrong with Perrys post Foundry? No-one is above criticism, if any justification. Would genuinely be interested. My small display collection is the reverse. Some Calpe, some Westfalia but the rest Perrys throughout |

Back to the original posting: yes the gendarmes are great (ordered them immediately) and as Jarhead pointed out some Kingdom of Holland Dutch infntry with side pompoms for the peninsular would make life even better, now we also await the the other Perry promise of 1814 Eclaireurs … or did I just imagine reading about it? |
The Gray Ghost | 11 Jul 2014 3:40 p.m. PST |
not one of these armies contains any Perry Miniatures my doctor made me give up perry miniatures for a more balanced diet |
mashrewba | 11 Jul 2014 3:49 p.m. PST |
No -there's nothing wrong with Perry's -I just realised I don't own any and I've no idea why!!! Hang on -I've have got a lot of their ECW -phew. |

OK, it's a rough crowd – shame on me for trying to pass along information. Marc the Plastics Fan: Mon ponctuation, la grammaire et l'orthographe peuvent faire défaut, mais les opérations de guerre est quelque chose que je connais très bien! Mac 1638: Noted. You have been here for 10 years. You just figured this out? |
deadhead | 12 Jul 2014 6:39 a.m. PST |
Eclaireurs I did ask for some time ago (second regiment of course, first and third are a simple paint job). Perrys did promise the Gendarmes but never mentioned Ecl's as I recall. My task this weekend was to start on the conversions of the chasseurs a cheval in cylindrical shako, but riding ACW horses for the simpler saddlery. They'll do for the sword armed folk. Those for the lancers; I am trying to grind down the Carlist War early Polish lancers. They have the alternative conical shako, but no turnbacks on the jackets….so out with the Greenstuff. My other thought was the ACW cavalry with French hussar cylindrical shakos and, again Greenstuff +++. |

Thank the Lord for Free Speech! Where would the world be without it? |
mashrewba | 13 Jul 2014 8:45 a.m. PST |
Dunno -we'll have to check all the places in the world that don't have it-mind you this is going spectacularly off topic and I really don't think the concept of free speech is anything to do with conversations about toy soldiers!!!. |
deadhead | 13 Jul 2014 9:34 a.m. PST |
Toy Soldiers? I know what you mean and would not cast aspersions on those who collect such. Glossy finish and mascara eyebrows. Sunday papers today suggest may yet be married legally in UK, which is no problem to me……..long as they do not frighten the horses. But I am not sure that the Perrys have "come out" yet and would argue that their output is (almost universally) world beating miniaturisation of what humans did look like in 1815! I will accept criticism of their Chasseurs a Cheval of la Garde….even the Dragoons, but otherwise, they are not toys! |

Hey Jarhead, thank you for sharing the news. – hijacking your topic with meaningless, and I'd even say - stupid blabla – this is what certain posters did. These are right s with too much time on their hands. Don't mind them. |

Marc the plastics fan | 14 Jul 2014 6:41 a.m. PST |
JH – sorry, your reply to me was lost on me. My post was merely to try and redirect the conversation back onto the gendarmes as it had got nasty real quickly. |
Mac1638 | 14 Jul 2014 8:44 a.m. PST |
I was also trying to get it back to Napoleonics, |
deadhead | 14 Jul 2014 9:19 a.m. PST |
OK, JH, so you want Kingdom of Holland and you may well be in very good company. How do we get this across to the makers? If we did, would it make any difference? I suspect the most established are sufficiently well off (and the tiniest new ones also can afford) to indulge their personal desires. Why did Perrys produce that marvellous Retreat from Moscow range? I never recall seeing campaigns for such. They are not the smart parade figures that drew most of us into Napoleonics…….just wonderful castings and something they personally wanted to do. Westfalia strike me as similar and Calpe's attitude to the range offered seems take it or leave it, basically. (and with figures of that quality, why not?) My Gendarmes are in the post I am assured and Gringos' should appear soon also. Happiness is a squadron of Gend d'Elite without my dodgy conversions of yesteryear. |
jarhead | 14 Jul 2014 6:36 p.m. PST |
All: So, I was getting a bit frustrated a couple days ago as I had perceived that this thread was getting ever more critical of my posting and further away from my intended topic. Regrets to all if I came across as a pain. I thoroughly enjoy the content and expertise folks share here and sometimes just need to take a break from the forum for a few days when folks start getting overly critical with no value added sniping. Goes with the territory I guess. Now I am on the verge of a real personal crisis: whether to buy the Perry Gendarmes d'Elite, or wait for the Gringo release. After careful contemplation, I think I'll get both! Oh, I am so going to be in the dog house with the Mrs….perhaps it is best that Gringo's release will be delayed a bit. Sleeping in a hammock on the back porch for extended periods tends to throw my back out. Jarhead |
deadhead | 15 Jul 2014 4:50 a.m. PST |
JH, both would be my vote, but a very unbalanced unit results! They are not even that colourful, but for some reason I always wanted them! Gringos I think will come with options for posing the right arm and that could add great versatility to the great perry figures. Plus minor conversion potential (pistol armed, musketoon at rest, sabre salute etc)…………. As for frustration….do not apologise for that…….. |
Marc the plastics fan | 15 Jul 2014 5:13 a.m. PST |
JH – go for both :-) And don't worry about a bit of forum frustration – it gets to us all sometimes And did i see the command are in different hats/poses, so head swaps for variety is possible, or was that camera angle? |
