I recently got a display cabinet from IKEA to house my model kits, there's a very brief review on my blog here: link Thanks for stopping by! |

Handsome cabinet. I also like the selection of books I could see. |

I have two of them and they are indeed quite great. I think they are going on about 6 years now with no problems. |

I've got one of the melamine sided ones, and I drilled extra holes and got some glass cut at the framing store to make more shelves -- the shelves seem designed for vases or statuary, plenty more 28mm figures will fit in the space! |

Rrobby, it certainly is, if only there were a way of adding more shelves. That bookcase is mostly First World War, I have several others with more WW1
Cloud Captain, good to know I am in good company! I was thinking of maybe buying another, that way I have the excuse to fill it

Jeff, that is a good idea, yeah the shelves seem at the right height for ornaments but not figures

I have two glass ones, like them very much except I would like to add shelves. Anyone have a clever idea for how to do that? |

I too have one with a wooden frame (£15 from local charity outlet) and added extra shelves between the originals, with the glass costing more than the cabinet. Trouble is, it's now full. |

Who would have thought a glass cabinet would be so popular? This post has received twice as many hits as the previous post about German figures and has only been online for a couple of hours

To increase my surface space I have added wood box frames as risers where they do not clash with the scenery. A bit od raised terrain adds some surface area too. If you got some of the clear display stands that are essentially boxes with 2 sides removed
you could really trick them out. That wouldn't require any glass-hacking skill :) |

Get some clear styrene rod and cut to height between shelves. Use a small dab of clear silicon to attach it into the corners of the case. Small rod should have enough strength to support a shelf and also be unobtrusive.Have clear glass shelves cut similar to those already in the case. |

I think you can get additional (replacement) Detolf shelves from IKEA – the moutning is really the only issue. I like the clear rod solution above. |

I like Allen57's solution as well. I think I may even have a few silicon rods kicking around somewhere. |

Here is a handy guide to adding shelves to a detolf cabinet. link |

I have six of their Billy bookcases for games and minis. For the two for minis, I replaced the wooden shelves with glass ones, and added glass doors and lights. |

Forgot to add that it's easy to add extra shelves in the Billys since they have holes already drilled for that. I bought a few extra glass shelves for each. |

It's a pity they no longer make these Bjursta beauties for bulk figure storage – especially as they also did extra glass shelves at £4.00 GBP each. Each cabinet holds about 3000 28mm figs.
For those with less space, tall CD cabinets can provide a solution. These are from Argos. I wall mounted these – they were made to be free standing.
