I agree with sneakgun, wish he was in 28mm. Actually if someone would do a set with all the major characters from the show that would be really nice. |

Am I the only one that was somwhat peewed by the fact that he was always called by his first and surname? What do you think, Ragnar Lodbrock? Come over here, Ragnar Lodbrock. Make sweet love to me, Ragnar Lodbrock! In most instances Ragnar would've been way more suitable. However his brother is always called Rollo and never Rollo Lodbrock
Methinks I'm verily puzzled! |
Tango01 | 09 Jul 2014 11:15 p.m. PST |
Maybe they called him like that because of special respect? Amicalement Armand |
Winston Smith | 10 Jul 2014 5:12 a.m. PST |
Because "Lodbrock" is a nickname. Have you heard of Ragnar Hairybreeks? Same guy with nickname left untranslated. Rollo would not be Hairybreeks not would his wife be Mrs Hairybreeks. |

Viking Age Scandinavians didn't have surnames. Apparent ones are either patronymics (eg. Leif Erikson – literally Leif the son of Erik), or nicknames (eg. Erik the Red – Leif's father and a probable ginger). |

Indeed Last Conformist. But that ain't a reason to keep on using the name + nickname/whateva until the eternity. No one does it nowadays either. |

@Lonkka: Re-reading the thread, are you refering to Ragnar as a character in some TV show, rather than a (semi-)historical figure? If so, forget what I said because I'm absolutely clueless on the subject. |
