Recommendations anyone? PS: I've already added one to my list: Bismarck: A Life by Jonathan Steinberg |

An older, recommended biography by a german historian is Lothar Gall, Bismarck. The white revolutionary. Galls Bismarck is not the know all and make all statesman of other biographies, but more like an opportunist, who uses the possibilities of his time. |

The Steinberg read is gloriously muddled. Not a good balance between personal and political life, and sometimes too much author's opinion as opposed to facts. Atrocious early part that was a tough read, but good going after that. I liked it, but would not rate it as a great book. Unfortunately I have no had the chance to read a better Bismarck biography. |
