Hi Folks, painting up some Knuckleduster shop keeps. I imagine all of the shop keepers smocks would have been white, but does anyone have a link for some painted ideas? Thanks

Since no one has offered a better sourced opinion try verticle strips on their aprons.

And while store owners might try for a more formal solid colour shirts their help, if they have it, might appear in checked shirts.

A search for aprons on the Denver digital library link
shows that most aprons were white, however the photo of a blacksmith shows a leather apron while if you scroll down the photo of "men in aprons" at a Wild West show has a number of different albeit plain shades. Traditionally butchers' aprons in the UK were dark blue or red striped garments so as not to show the blood too much so you could say an immigrant had brought his from the home country.
