They say that first impressions are the lasting ones. This cover:

was my first exposure to War of the Worlds, and it provoked me to read the entire book in one sitting. Ever since I have had the vision of the tripods being very saucer like, and on the occasions where I have sat down to build my own (always to be distracted to something else) I had the saucer vision in mind.

So…. having bought into All Quiet on the Martian Front my first thought is how to make the tripods more saucer-like. Here is my first try:

Once I got the extra "wing" structure on, I did not like how it made the "snout" more pronounce, so I tempered that with some minor add ons.

Nice conversion work. Almost has the Tom Cruise version look to it as well.

This was the cover I was brought up with:

I hate to date myself but I look for the Classics Illustrated Tripod brand:

The AQOTMF ones are very nice though.

Panzer-- that's the one sold by Scheltrum, I think. I have one and it's a very impressive model on the table with 28mm figures scurrying about it's feet.

I love them all, but, yeah, that Classics Illustrated version is the one I grew up loving. I still have that issue tucked away in a box in the attic.

I too like the one on the CI cover that PanzerCDR links to.

Here is my rendition

My favorite is still the 1950's movie though not een as tripods they are on 3 anti-magnetic legs.

Nazrat – Thanks. I'll have to look for that one.

Bobgnar – Yes! Exactly! Right before the gun and crew are vaporized! Ouch!

Ah, youth . . .

Oops, pardon me, it was Revirisco that makes that tripod! tin-soldier.com/tripod.html

Nazrat, That makes two of us. The Scheltrum is the taller on on the right,

Difficult to fit them on bases for Hordes of the Thing. Need to use wire stablizers.

For you Marty Tripod-philes … TMG makes a nice versions in 10mm scale. link But I'm sure it could be used for other scales, like 6mm, 15mm or even larger. As smaller "Scout Tripods" for 25-28mm … just FYI … evil grin
