link I am shocked. There is a nice word put in fr him, that he actually paid for his art collection. |

Do not, whatever you do, scroll down to the comments section underneath. I would like to assure my colonial brethren and those further afield that the readers of he Express do not represent the common man of Britain. They are at best a kind of troglodytic embarrassment. |

Was poor? Oh no, that's right, so I guess he can't get in the list. |

Imagine getting two guys thrown on the DH on a thread accusing Hitler of hypocrisy. And two left off with a warning. Who wooda thunk it? |
darthfozzywig | 02 Jul 2014 4:48 p.m. PST |
I merely post lies, damned lies, and statistics without commentary, and only the latter in this case. And since it's outside the Ten Year Rule, I'll note that once both Celebrimbor and Gil-galad were out of the way, Elrond really spread a lot of simoleons around Rivendell. |
Winston Smith | 02 Jul 2014 5:22 p.m. PST |
You don't last as long as Elrond without a lot of graft. |
Zargon | 02 Jul 2014 7:37 p.m. PST |
Still don't see the playing 'Secret Millionaire' in downtown Warsaw. |
darthfozzywig | 02 Jul 2014 9:33 p.m. PST |
Elrond visits Warsaw, but it's in The Book of Lost Tales vol 5. It's only a single line there, but Peter Jackson will turn that into a 25-minute action sequence. Wait. What were we talking about again? |
Winston Smith | 02 Jul 2014 10:01 p.m. PST |
Your guess is as good as mine at this point. |
Sergeant Paper | 02 Jul 2014 10:45 p.m. PST |
Elrond was a real patron of the decorative arts, but in his heart he wanted to sing and dance, and to be a lumberjack. |

"Do not, whatever you do, scroll down to the comments section underneath. I would like to assure my colonial brethren and those further afield that the readers of he Express do not represent the common man of Britain. They are at best a kind of troglodytic embarrassment." Pretty condescending statement Pete Melvin, and in my experience quite the opposite for those that don't live in ivory towers. |
Lee Brilleaux | 03 Jul 2014 11:16 a.m. PST |
Quite right, Robert 666! We must dismiss the suggestion that the average Briton is NOT "a kind of troglodytic embarrassment." Who among reasonable people can disagree with the attractively named 'Nails', who offers a trenchant critique of : "HITLER
..
SPOT THE DIFFERENCE ????
.. NO, THERE ISN'T ANY
!!!!!!!!!!!!" Note not only the subtle use of ALL CAPS, but the way in which ellipses, question marks and no less than twelve exclamation marks are cunningly deployed to make the point irrefutable. Some may rely on reasoned argument, well-chosen facts and twaddle of that sort, but Nails hits the -- oh, sorry. So, I say, ignore those who are embarrassed by such strident opinions. Celebrate the proud British troglodyte! |
John the OFM | 03 Jul 2014 11:27 a.m. PST |
Winston, make that 3 DHs on a thread accusing Hitler of hypocrisy
|
Robert666 | 03 Jul 2014 11:29 a.m. PST |
Mexican Jack: 'Nail's', may have a point, Just because you disagree with a point of view doesn't give you the right to call them names and mock their grammar.
Long live troglodytes I say, and embrace the common man. |
Robert666 | 03 Jul 2014 12:09 p.m. PST |
I never said people can't hold opinions about me, you can think or indeed say what you want. |
Rebelyell2006 | 03 Jul 2014 12:12 p.m. PST |
If that was the case, why would you post Just because you disagree with a point of view doesn't give you the right to call them names and mock their grammar. Does that mean people can say whatever they want, but they do not have the right to say whatever they want? And calling someone a "traitor" is very disparaging, regardless of what you might think. |
Robert666 | 03 Jul 2014 12:19 p.m. PST |
For a start an elected politician is not " somebody" having an opinion on their policies is your right to voice it, and we will have to disagree that traitor is disparaging. Mocking someone because their grammar or point of view is considered intellectually inferior is wrong, disagree yes mock no. |
Rebelyell2006 | 03 Jul 2014 12:35 p.m. PST |
So again, it boils down to you having an opinion and being disparaging, but others cannot. |
OSchmidt | 03 Jul 2014 12:56 p.m. PST |
Dear List Did ANYONE but me find that the article was anything but a big yawn? Certainly one would hope that Hitler had the smarts to salt away some dough for himself. This does not mean all he did was merely a sham and a con to get money. He was truly an evil man and did evil things and he did them because he WANTED to do them, not as a smokescreen to bilk money. He was not a con man, he was an evil man. As for the "troglodytes" I will simply say that once can find in any society individuals who if considered as typical would be excellent examples as to why democracy has been a terrible mistake. However-- People run off at the mouth a lot and say things that they might not really mean, or really believe. After all lots of stand-up comics say the most outrageous things to get a laugh and I find it hard to believe they really believe it. Because a person may have reprehensible opinions does not make him a reprehensible person. Further, what they say is not important, it's what they do that counts. This is after all TMP which as a friend said is one third about finding "gotchas" one third navel gazing, and one third mealy mouthed male menopausal angst. We are all idiots. The only difference between us and politicians is that we elected the politicians, and no one in their right mind would elect us! The real truth is that if things aren't going right in a democracy you have no one to blame but yourself. |

Oh, Robert, Robert, Robert ---- I was poking fun at certain of my fellow countrymen for, despite my nom-de-TMP and my postal address in the Thirteen Colonies, I am as British as anyone who is even now, at 4.15, drinking tea. I was 'Transporting the Urine.' I pointed to 'Nails' less as a critique of his unusual use of grammar (although it is remarkable) than his Tourette's-like urge to yell into the internet, injecting his own special bee-in-bonnet into a completely unrelated discussion. In this case a politician of recent vintage is compared to Hitler, and declared to be Exactly The Same. Which seems, at the very least, open to question. Am I making fun of this 'Nails', a troglodytic personage unknown in these halls? Let's go with that. |
John the OFM | 03 Jul 2014 9:04 p.m. PST |
Yeah, 5. Who woulda thunk it? If I had been trolling for DH captures, this is not the topic I would have chosen. |

If one is not allowed to mock the bad grammer and speling of others
. Are we living in Russia ????? This was going to be a "Free Mexican Jack Squint!" post, but it's safer to lock up all the Brits before July. 4, lest they harm themselves in rage and bitter self-reproach. |
Martin Rapier | 04 Jul 2014 8:43 a.m. PST |
Jack is in the DH for quoting some internet idiot as an example of internet idiotic behaviour? Oh please. |

I did wonder where I picked up a new ignore from, I guess it was here. I'd have replied sooner but I fell out of my ivory tower and bent my silver typing rod. |
