Guys, PBS aired a nice documentary last night on the sinking of the Sultana steam boat shortly after the end of the American Civil War, which had been over-loaded with Union POWs heading home, and became the largest US maritime disaster up until Pearl Harbor. My great grandfather Daniel Garber, of the 102nd O.V.I. Rgt., Co. Here are a couple of books about the event: link link I've heard Alan Huffman talk about the Sultana and its demise. This was a tragedy that should have never happened by greed and uncaring and inefficient oversight was too much in evidence. Jim |
