In brief, want 28mm Croatian Napoleonic figures and info, waffle below.

Hello guys, me and me colleagues have been playing some Songs of Drums and Shakos and now I have completed a Prussian Fusilier force and a French Dragoon force i'm interested in doing a new one.

Now being quarter Croat myself and having visited my grandmothers village in Croatia on the Dalmatian coast one thing the locals pointed out to me was the road through the mountain that they refer to as 'Napoleons road' apparently built at that time, I thought the next logical force to build was a Croat one.

I don't know much about them in the period, they fought for both the Austrians and the French correct? Does anyone have some good reference material online for me to read, or a decent one stop book (I don't need to know everything obviously but enough for a flavour and some accurate uniform details)

Lastly anyone do 28mm Croatian figures? Or anything that can be modified into it. A googling shows me that when they were in France they wore rather like French uniforms, but I am very much on step one here, thought i'd take it to the best minds for these questions.

If you go for Croats in Austrian service it is quite simple, they did wear Austrian uniforms – Grenzer, there is plenty on the web available – go to napoleon-series.org and look for the article of Enrico Acerbi who did cover the Austrians nicely.

There are plenty of suitable Austrian figures in 28 mm available.

For the transistent period when the Croats were in French service it is a mixed bag, technically they should have worn French uniforms and equipment – but there are sources which indicate that still in 1812 some units had a mix of Austrian and French uniforms, e.g. still the brown Grenzer coats.

Oh i see Grenzers were croats! That's very interesting. I'm relatively new to the Napoleonic Period and mostly have been learning about Prussians, Brits and French at the moment.

Any good sources for them in French service? Think it might be interesting to have another ally on the French side. But if they also still wore Grenzer uniform, then they can do double service.

Was there any specific Dalmatian units?
