Hi all I'm looking for some goblinoid opponents for my 28mm Oathsworn miniatures Dwarfs. I'll be using them in a dungeoncrawl skirmish game. I've looked at he usual suspects in GW, Mantic et al and their Orcish figures look too cartoon-y for my liking. The jutting jaw, hunched stoop etc just do nothing for me. What I'm looking for is a more realistically proportioned orc – something with a bit of menace. GW's LOTR figures fit the bill stylistically, but they are to slight to stack up with the Oathborn dwarves. I'm only after enough for a skirmish game, so character and variety are going to be real selling points for me too. Any recommendations? |

Wargames Factory has some nice plastic ones. Maybe too slim for your needs. |

I've looked at the Wargames Factory ones and what puts me off is the really odd looking helmets and armour. They're in the right style though – heads on top of their shoulders, not slung down on their chest, legs that are a reasonable length and don't seem to bend outwards at the knees… |

Who ever does the old Asgard fantasy range have some really nice looking goblinoid races, worth a look, I liked them as they looked like a sub species of humans. |

I will second the OFM's suggestion of Old Glory Ghost orcs. I have some and they are quite nice, not cartoony at all. |

I feel your pain, Goober. Along with the good suggestions above, I would recommend going back to GW and looking at the orcs in their LOTR range. Proper orcs, albeit premium price and sadly plastic. Also, do NOT fail to look at Ebay for OOP orcs by various manufacturers made before the apes on steroids look came to dominate. If you are looking at doing a small (skirmish) 'realistic' force, GW LOTR may be perfect and readily available. |

As Elsyrsyn said, WF ones are inspired by the McBride illustrations. their torsos, IIRC, are made with no defined front or back so you can have more variation. Being plastic you could convert their helmets and give them other weapons… |

Some of the Reaper ones are lovely, but very pricey. BTD and Thunderbolt look good but lack a lot of variety. For a skirmish game you want your warband to be as diverse as possible. I like those Nik Lund ones – a bit cartoon-y but very characterful and for $1.25 USD ea. you can't go wrong. Lots of options. Thanks all. |

i always favoured the Ghost miniatures Orcs by Old Glory. they are still a bit hunched, but they have fierce looking faces and and have lean muscular bodies. I'm considering using WGF orcs as LOTR stand ins since the GW LOTR orcs are now $30 USD for a box of 12 here in Canada now. (i don't play LOTR SBG or WOTR anymore, i use Saga/dux bellorum/dux brit mods) |

Mithril Miniatures have some.
They are ment to be for Lord of the Rings games/collectors.
They look a bit like the Wargames Factory ones, but are in metal and, unfortunately much more expensive. They used to have a lot more variations, sold in boxes of 30 models, but the boxes are long OOP. |

Ral Partha Europe has a fair number of the old Ral Partha Fantasy Armies orcs available. Great metal figures, by Bob Olley if I remember right. The older 25mm RAFM orcs are really nice too but the variety might be a bit short for you. |
