Hey all, I'm a bit tired of the standard Nato vs Warpac or Arab-Israeli War stuff I tend to play, and was wondering if there were any suggestions for interesting smaller conflicts or hypotheticals that might feature some equipment I don't commonly get to use. I've currently got a fascination with smaller African border wars and skirmishes in Asia, but don't really know enough about the different sides to game it. Any recommendations for models to look into purchasing or inspiration for lower intensity micro armor games? I'd prefer if it still featured vehicular combat in some form. |

India vs Pakistan in 1965 is quite a popular one for more unusual tank battles. You could also do a Greece vs Turkey in a hypothetical escalation from the invasion of Cyprus. |

I used to do both the 65 and 71 Wars in 6mm for Indo-Pak conflicts. Iran-Iraq War was my other along with the Ogaden War. |

"Test of Arms" and "Sands of War" from GDW have a bunch of scenarios covering lesser known conflicts. Sands of War in particular since it is a platoon stand level game. |

Thailand and Burma/Myanmar border dispute 2001: link link A lot of "what if" potential for using micro armour given the variety of weapons those countries have had in their inventories. |

may I suggest the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia (Dec 1978),
as a campaign it's got it all,
a fifth column. daring commando raids, big armoured actions, lots of river crossings ..I have heard once that it was the only 'classic' soviet style armoured invasion of the cold-war period . |

How about the Sino-Soviet encounters in the late 60's, with the Russians desperately trying to recover one of their new T-62's after an abortive attack. |

capt jimmi – Interesting idea, I do recall that invasion. However big armored actions? I know the Vietnamese had tank units, did not realize the Cambodians had them? |

I've been looking into the French campaigns in North Africa, particularly Mali and the Central African Republic. Small forces covering huge distances with battalion sized combats in several locations. Similarly, the Congo has been a never ending source of ongoing conflict. |

Hi mghFond- well yes.. 'big armoured actions' might be a stretch … it was big for the PAVN who steamrolled Soviet-style across a broad deep front , with multiple big river crossings done well .? I doubt that the the KR would have been able to organise (supply) any sort of coordinated armoured action / response. The concept here would be for the PAVN to be well prepared with everything 'Soviet' (you want) that hey had . …vs. the KR (but you can use your VC figs) poorly prepared but determined veteran guerillas on home soil. ..armed with second-tier Soviet(Chinese) and captured US(RKA) vehicles. …T34/85's and M113's for example.(..but no fuel) |

A hypothetical South American Union vs the Northam Confederation with Europe and Asia contributing forces. Big tank or armored car actions on the Texas border with a eclecti OB/TOE being utilised. |

If we are getting hypothetical …how about the Sino-Soviet border dispute circa 1969. Plenty of terrain types to fight over (all of it harsh ..and desolate) . … I wonder if Nth Korea could be inclined to join in ? ..with whom ? ..or maybee 'go it alone'(well-crazy is Ok here)..for the glory of International Communism ! …or just to punish the revisionists ! … I wonder if control of Mongolia(then Soviet)could be the prize. ? |
