I am after a cheap wild west train or train set in the UK, struggling to find one, not Dixons or Redoubt as i said i need a cheap one, as money is tight! Thank you. |

Wrong time of year for the most likely option, unfortunately, as cheap "Christmas" train sets are often surprisingly suitable. |

try toy shops for 28mm suitable ones, Tally Ho! |

I got one on e-bay UK for 12 quid with postage . Ask the seller to take measurements so you get and idea of how it will scale up. Just quickly found an example. auction |

You might pick up an S gauge one. |

Try B&M stores, I picked one up at Christmas for about 8 quid. I'm also sure I've seen them since. |

You might pick up an S gauge one. But one thing it won't be is cheap. S gauge is virtually unknown in the UK. |

The link that Feet Up Now provided appears to be a Goldloc train set. As Dom and Mahotsukai said, these normally appear around Christmas. I have one and it fits well with 28mm figures. You can see two of the cars in this post from my blog, the last two pictures: link Be advised that the track selection, at least on my set, was limited to two straight sections, about seven curves sections, and two switch sections. I always thought that "O" gauge was closest to 28mm. |

O is closer to 1/48. S gauge is rare and collectable, most of the time yoiu can get 28mm stuff way cheaper than you can S. Model train collectors are maniacs about stuff. But you never know when you will find one at a yard sale or some such. I have been looking for two years and no luck. |

On30 is better. The narrow gauge looks better with the nowhere-near-1/48 figures. There is even a UK manufacturer: link link Also there is the possibility of finding bits on Ebay; there are underframes and bogies for wagons, and there are some that actually sell locomotive parts: auction auction auction auction And scratch the rest. Otherwise there are only papercraft options, as we cannot keep track of all the cheap cr@p in the discount chains. |
