This is UK based, but they may be available elsewhere. I tried these over past two days to paint horses – picked up four interesting brown colours that will be "dipped" with Army Painter strong tone. I had read some warnings about thenm not drying etc. Well, I found them good. They go on very wet and, beinbg water based, take a while to dry, so a different experience to solvents flashing off. Very low odour. Good covering power. All up – recommended. So if you are looking for some interesting "hobby" colours to use (ie matte not car gloss) I would say these could be for you. And good price, below the Army painter cans, and in UK on 4 for 3 at present – around £7.00 GBP a can. |

What colours did you use and what colour horses do they equate to Mark? |

Oh that is far too serious a question – my horses are wargames horses and so they are light golden brown, medium organge brown, chestnut and dark brown – some get socks, blazes and coloured tails. But none would ever fool someone who knew what a horse looks like into believeing I knew the first thing about horse colours. |

Always good. But I often think as wargamers we paint (and make terrain) to match what we "think" wargames stuff is like, rather than actually copy nature. The colours – raw and burnt sienna, raw umber and yellow oxide – the burnt umber was too dark for me (and the dip). But as nice browns with good covering power, I recommend the sprays (and they match their bottles of paint as well, which is a nice plus) |

Thanks Mark, they were the colours i was expecting you to suggest apart from the yellow oxide! Will give these a try. |

The yellow oxide is a bit "in your face" – but I will be using the dip on these, so it will tome down – I have to start with lighter/brighter colours otherwise everything gets lost under the treacle. |
