I thought I'd throw this out to the crowd
.as the title suggests I'm having trouble finding pictures of these uniforms in the 'Crimean Adventure'
does anyone here have a link to site or indeed a suitable book? |

There used to be a link to RM uniforms of the Crimean War but I can no longer find it. If you PM me with your personal email I may be able to find a file or two I saved. IIRC, the RMs in the Crimea were renowned for being better turned out than the Guards. Their coatee was double breasted, like the Guards, and they wore brass epaulettes, but without any fringe. In the field they wore a blue porkpie forage cap with the RM badge in front. |

If you can find or borrow a copy, "Uniforms & Weapons of the Crimean War", by Robert Wilkinson-Latham (Hippocrene- ISBN: 0-88254-451-9) will light you up! It covers all combatant armies in the conflict. Looking thru my copy, on page 46, caption for a B&W photo #37 says,"
.Royal Marine Artillery wore blue coatees with red facings while Royal Marines wore red with blue facings." Page 45 goes into great details of the Royal Marine dress of the period in the Crimea. Published in 1977 so the only color is on the dust jacket. It's my "go-to first" book on uniforms of the Crimean War. Tom |
