I will have a Union balloon as part of my army and am trying to confirm the color it should be painted. A search on line has brought up a few color pictures which show Intrepid in a creamy-beige color. Would that be correct for all Union balloons? I also read where the Confederate balloon was made from silk dress fabric bought form suppliers and not donated by Southern Belles, that gave the balloon a patch work appearance. Thanks for the continued help! Terry |

This may help. Balloons could have the element of the showman about them: link Union Balloons seemed to have been named: link Don't forget the patriotic basket: link |

My 15mm Intrepid is painted in a beige color. A true challenge to get the name on the model, being curved and all. |

Mine are all beige or cream as well. The first two are mine and the third one I am working on making.

Just love 138SquardronRAF Union balloon link, the balloon with the illustration of Gen McClellan. I would like to find a copy of that print! |

Thank you all for the help. My balloon is going to be a 6 MM one so I'll not try for putting the name on the side, but will go with a cream color, and the wagons in a pale blue. Terry |

I saw a nice functioning one at a con in Ohio many years ago, decent guy with a really nice growing collection of 15's. He used a hand ball, painted it white-ish and stained it with coffee. Didn't use it in the battle ( which was small) but really, I was impressed by his effort. |

They have a (cringe) new balloon ride at Gettysburg. When we first saw this huge white sphere rising above the trees we exclaimed: "Oh my God! It's the Death Star!" :) |
