We're promoting our new rules called Myrmidons this week on TMP's marketplace and since our inspiration for designing the rules was the 1954 Movie "THEM here's a fun link to Dr. Theda,s Crypt who carries some "THEM" related movie clips and resin models you might enjoy:

For those of you interested in the rules here's a little more information:

MYRMIDONS

Giant mutant ants are in the city sewers and the army must save the day! Play the army commander and use your rifle squads, bazookas, flame throwers – – even mechanized units to eliminate the Ant Queen and her minions; or feast on the human intruders as you defend your colony by playing the carnivorous giant ants! This package contains everything you need to play except six sided die!

Here's what you get:
•A complete set of play tested rules, using easy-to-learn game mechanics.
•Partial sample turns with accompanying illustrations.
•2-D copies of all required game pieces for first-time players.
•Extensive diagrams and illustrations for "visual learners" to get playing fast!
•SEVEN unique scenarios for hours of gaming fun; play from two to six players!
•A rulebook with comb binding requiring less space on the gaming table.
•Compatible basing with Flames of War.
•Fully supported rules through the Yahoo group "AntAttack."
Please join us there for more information, tips and photographs!

One of my favorite films. Good luck with your game.

Myrmidons25 Jun 2014 11:38 a.m. PST

Thank you Shagnasty. We've had a lot of fun gaming these rules and we feel they capture the fun and imagination the original movie portrayed.

Get the antennae! Get the antennae!

As a kid seeing the movie the firs t time on a Saturday matinee TV I always thought it was pretty cool when the highway patrolman pulls the Thompson SMG out of the trunk of his patrol car and starts blasting.

kallman25 Jun 2014 12:00 p.m. PST

BTW I thought I saw a listing of this game on the Historicon PEL. Was I correct? If so I will have to see if I can get in that game.

Myrmidons25 Jun 2014 12:12 p.m. PST

Hi Whitemanticore, we're not running a game this year at Historicon so that is someone else's game. Have fun though, I wish I could go this year.

'Them!' is one of my all time favs and the first movie to warn of the results of nuclear testing. It was originally to be shot in color, but the studio got cold feet because of the cost, so it was done in B&W. They already did some work on the opening credits, so the word 'Them!' still appears in color on the B&W background. It was the top grossing film that year for the studio. I wonder if color would have added to the film after all.

"Gojira" (Godzilla) was also released in 1954.

I too loved that movie as a kid, and the tommy gun. Love it now, watched just the other day. The games at Historicon have been great. I will get these rules. I already have about a dozen boxes of insects, to use as ants. Maybe convert to give them real jaws or mandibles. Cowboy finds one in front yard.

Sounds very interesting.
You guys demoing these at any of the AZ FLGSs?
I just moved out here and was happy to find a ton of gaming opportunities.

deflatermouse26 Jun 2014 5:19 a.m. PST

This sounds EXACTLY what I am looking for.

I'm having trouble getting the site. Is there a link? How can I join?

Do you know how hard it is to find plastic ants here?

Myrmidons26 Jun 2014 7:10 a.m. PST

Privateer4hire-
We have had demos at the Imperial Outpost in Glendale and at
Vul-Con in the past and plan to do more. Check out our Yahoo group AntAttacK for more info.

deflatermouse –
I'll post another ad here on TMP for purchasing the rules and I would also recommend joining AntAttack Yahoo group for tips, photos and where to find ants and a 1954 army:)

tberry740326 Jun 2014 4:08 p.m. PST

Look here for ants:

The brown ants are 2" long, the black ants are 1.5" long.

khurasanminiatures26 Jun 2014 4:38 p.m. PST

Myrmidons, are you marketing ant models for this? If you're not please advise as I've got some ant models people might like to use with your rules.

Myrmidons26 Jun 2014 6:14 p.m. PST

No, we're not making miniatures and we'd love to have pictures posted here of your miniatures! They'd be perfect!!
You have both worker and soldier ants which compliment our rules.

tberry740326 Jun 2014 7:22 p.m. PST

Too bad his site is down right now.

Whitwort Stormbringer27 Jun 2014 12:04 a.m. PST

Aaaah I need these rules! I'm a myrmecologist, this looks amazing. Will need to finally order some of those Khurasan ants…

deflatermouse27 Jun 2014 3:53 a.m. PST

Having trouble trying to get on the AntAttack Yahoo group. Can't find it to start with.
Getting lots of tips about ants on curtains etc but not the yahoo group.
Can anyone point where I've been going wrong?
thanks

sorry but it's not working for me. Thank you for the link.

tberry740327 Jun 2014 6:55 p.m. PST

What is it not working?

You do need to be a member of the group to see anything.

Myrmidons27 Jun 2014 8:06 p.m. PST

deflatermouse,

Tberry7405 is correct, you have to request membership.

If you are still having a problem, PM me your email and I'll
send you an invitation for the group.

We leave no man behind :)

Unless we're both running from a giant ant:

I don't have to run faster than the ant, I just need to run faster than you!

capncarp29 Jun 2014 5:54 p.m. PST

tberry: "Unless we're both running from a giant ant:

Hey, tberry, smear some of this honey on you--it'll mask your scent and the ant will have a tough time finding you! <heh, heh!>

deflatermouse30 Jun 2014 2:41 a.m. PST

Hi Myrmidons

I'm trying to PM you my h0t mail address. If you could send me an invite, I'd very much appreciate that.

Many thanks again

Myrmidons30 Jun 2014 7:00 a.m. PST

deflatermouse,

Haven't received your PM yet but when I do I'll try to help you.

Captain Gideon30 Jun 2014 7:22 p.m. PST

Just a quick sideline thing here but has anyone thought of doing this for another Giant Bug movie of the 50's The Beginning of the End.

This was the one with the Giant Grasshoppers so I'm curious if any of you have thought of it.

khurasanminiatures30 Jun 2014 8:25 p.m. PST

No, we're not making miniatures and we'd love to have pictures posted here of your miniatures! They'd be perfect!!
You have both worker and soldier ants which compliment our rules.

Actually we have both those and little black ants, so as you can tell we like giant ants a little too much! grin
