Well, here's my dilemma. I have a force made of cyber or android beings. They are made up of Rebel Minis ' Shalur Mercenaries, using Titan hover IFVs, Rebel Grav tanks(the flat, rectangular ones), which are actual AIs and not crewed, and Khurasan's Hunter killers(also AIs).
So I'd like a brief background fluff and a name for this race.
I'd considered just calling them Cylons, justifying that the Terrans named them thus due to them resembling the aggressors from mythical stories told of those lost souls from the ancient colonies…
So any ideas would be great…

Lion in the Stars24 Jun 2014 9:16 p.m. PST

Since you're not selling them, calling them Cylons wouldn't be an issue.

IIRC, the Space: Above and Beyond AIs were simply called 'AIs', I don't remember a trooper nickname for them like the "Chigs".

'Clankers' is one possibility.

They've left behind their humanity, or at least their bond with their parent human race, I assume. They might call themselves the Transcended.

Or, they might be labeled the Forsaken, by those who see them as giving up their natural bodies.

Best,
JBR

You could call them "Clickers" from the 1962 classic:
"The Creation of the Humanoids"

Cyberbeings? Sure. Name them "The 10110111000110100111010001111101."

Sounds cool, doesn't it?evil grin

Ha! Thanks all! Great suggestions. If you've seen my post about the Southern Cross, then I think Transcended and Forsaken fit best with my human centric theme.
I have to admit those comedic suggestions would be fun to use…
I did consider calling them AIs or droids as well.

Nicely done, sir.

The strange thing about them is that the nearby posthumans aren't sure exactly who created the Transcended; perhaps they were outcasts, perhaps they had once been posthumans and had chosen their current form, perhaps they had been created by an alien race to infiltrate the Pax Tyhrranium Zone.

Whatever their origin, they were expert trackers, were entirely tireless, and preferred to launch their stealthy attacks during the lonely hours when humans needed sleep the most. They were valued as soldiers of fortune all over the Near Sprawl, from the white giants of the Dog and the Fore-Dog to the scattered dark dwarfstars around the Zetan Reticule.

The Unshackled (Unshaks). Free of their human masters and/or their human forms, the Unshackled mean to ensure that they will never again be subjugated again.

The Divine.
They are free from souls and flesh and the associated sins that brings.
They are pure and clean and they alone can determine who has the right to die and be granted access to heaven.
The scum and the filth and the sinners are doomed to stay alive and live out their lives of worthlessness, knowing they will never find ever lasting peace.

Capt Flash25 Jun 2014 3:58 a.m. PST

I like these new suggestions. I'll pinch off a bunch of ideas and try for a coherent whole. Thanks again!
@ kidbananas- no pics yet as I want to finish all factions then post on my derelict blog all pics and backstory together. But this faction is plain-Jane. Just silver infantry and black vehicles. Looking towards August to have five armies finished.

The Milquetoasts. This is derogatory & emphasises the lack of human traits in these creatures. They're bland, machines, no real personality.

Terran slang names can be 'Caspars' or just 'MTs'.

The Mimics. Or the Echoes.
They are mere copies of humanity. Imitators. An abomination.

Or the Abacus (plural aba·ci \ˈa-bə-ˌsī, -ˌkē; ə-ˈba-ˌkī\ ), meaning mere calculators. Everything has to "compute", be logical. Machines devoid of any real capacity for originality.

They simply call themselves the Successors. The Heirs. Inheritors. The Scions.

Human troopers might call them:
Bucket heads or buckets
Bolts (as in "bucket of bolts")
Chips or chippers

AIs might be referred to as:
Motherboards or 'boards (or Mothers)
Frames (as in mainframes)

The AI tanks might be:
Big Iron

So a bunch of buckets, some Big Iron, and a Motherboard could describe a droid assault team with armour support and an AI controller.

sparkers.. cause that's what happens when we shoot em..

they should have two names. one they use, one the opposition uses. more if they have more than one opposition.

"The Emergent(s)/Emergence"?

So named because their "soft" AIs were not originally engineered to have true sapience/free will, but only for flexible problem solving to lighten the workload for human controllers. However as usual in these stories, their machine intelligences developed properties ("hard AI") their designers did not intend, ultimately resulting in Kill All Humans.

chromedog11 Jul 2014 3:01 a.m. PST

@Lion in the stars: The AI's in S:AAB were also referred to as "Silicates".

I've got the series on my HD and just watched it a few days ago (visited the air base where parts of the pilot were shot last weekend. It's also our local airport).
