I am currently building up a Welsh warband and was wondering if the bow were worth buying? |

What a question. I don't know the rules. But if they don't make the bow worth buying I'd say the rules are not reflecting reality. Besides, if you don't "buy" bow, what do you have left for an army? A northern Welsh army would be c. two-thirds of its potential size if you don't bring "levy bow" (whatever that is supposed to mean), and a southern Welsh army would be reduced to a third of its size more or less without the bow

Saga isn't your usual game, it's very abstract. Bow levy are worth having though. Use them as a screen for your "heavies". plenty of saga guides out there . eg. link Besides it wouldn't really be Welsh without archers, unless you wanted minmax tournament advice, which I don't have. |

No I am not a tournament minmaxer but I do like to get reasonable troops. Having bought the Saga Welsh box without paying too much attention to it I discover they have bow in it already so buying them is kind of a moot point! :) I have seen a number of list alternatives so good to see the bow can do ok. I just hope I can do justice to them with my painting now. |

A northern Welsh army would be c. two-thirds of its potential size if you don't bring "levy bow" (whatever that is supposed to mean), and a southern Welsh army would be reduced to a third of its size more or less without the bow Remember these aren't armies we are talking about here though. They are small warbands or raiding parties of 20 – 40 men, so they could quite legitmately not include any archers IMO. But to answer the question, I'd say it's certainly worth having a unit of levy missile troops as an option to choose from. |
