PaperTerrain continues to expand its line of products for use with Alien Dungeon's "All Quiet on the Martian Front" game. The latest is a typical church from early 1900s America. Every town would have a church and in the dark days of the Martian invasion, many people would flock to their church to pray for deliverance from the dreaded Martians.

This kit allows you to build a church that is approximately 10" x 5" and 11" tall. Like all our products, the undamaged outer shell of the building lifts off to show the destroyed structure underneath. The price is $20.00 USD. The landscaping, miniatures and other houses shown in these photos are not included, but are sold separately.

That's too American. Hollywood notwithstanding, "The War of the Worlds" is set in England.

Ah, but "All Quiet on the Martian Front" is set world wide, with the initial rulebook focusing on the conflict in the United States. That church is not at all "Too American." It may be a bit "too New England", but I don't know enough about early 1900s American Church architecture to say for certain.

Mr. Sobieski, it seems as though you are mistaken about a great many things in regards to the setting of the new "All Quiet on the Martian Front" miniature war game.

Fear not, you are not alone, others have made similar gaffes.

If it pleases you I shall attempt to enlighten your understanding.

This is not "War of the Worlds" in its most historical nature in that it does not exclusively represent the initial landings of Martian craft in England somewhere around 1898 or 1899.

The setting is heavily influenced by Wells' book, of that the authors make no claims to the contrary, however the timeline has moved on from Wells' book and the current events and influential people of the times are referenced, such as John Pershing and Teddy Roosevelt, but not HRM Queen Victoria.

This is because the Martian invasion of Surrey and London was in fact a scouting mission. The Martian forces in that action were expendable and were not lost in vain.

The events of AQotMF are set nearly ten years after those events. The scouting mission undoubtedly sent back data, because the Martians aren't dying from a few germs this time.

Military technology has also changed. No longer is horse drawn artillery and naval torpedo boats used in the human struggle, no, for the lowly steam tractor has been given armor and guns and been sent out to do battle with the invaders from another world. Massey-Ferguson never looked so good! Humans have adapted even greater technology in their struggle against the foe.

While the original invasion was in Britain, the secondary invasion happened in the United States and Canada, there were also other cylinders which landed other places as well, but this game is using North America as it's primary setting.

The British are in the game as well, having learned a thing or two about fighting Martians they have assembled an expeditionary force to help combat the alien menace. Undoubtedly they learned a few things the first time around as well and are taking the fight to the interlopers.

So you see, you are correct, "The War of the Worlds" is set in England, but this however is not.

Good day!

Your terrain tempts me.

I pray for my deliverance.

Tis futile, Scooby, futile…. (sez he who fell victim to Scott's Vauban fort…)

And it's doubtless got Randolph Scott and John Wayne as a substitute for Wells's luscious prose. ;)

Quality stuff. I am tempted to get some; tempted enough to go looking for your website.

Look Great! more stuff to empty the wallet. I need to finish painting my kickstarter stuff and these buildings are next on the purchase list.
By the way Scott how did you do the smoke? It looks great.

Thanks all!

DGT123, the smoke is just cotton or that synthetic fiber stuffing painted or dyed black/brown. The tall pillar of smoke has a wire support inside.

Nice looking! Plus what I like about Scott's buildings is they come with that nice destroyed look feature built in (plus it makes the buildings much stronger). These will be perfect for marauding Martian miniature games!

I mostly loved the ex-church, and the shot of the tripod standing "in church" was hilarious. Well done. I will be tasked with producing "ruins" now for every building I possess in this scale as the Martian Heat Ray will law anything in range "low."
