All the rage at the moment, I have decided to writeup my first skirmish game (using NUTS!) in a comic style. A bit reminiscent of the old Commando comics and it made me get out the few I have lying around and re-read them.

Anyway, it follows a patrol in late June 1994 in Normandy.

The entire comic is at this blog post:

There is also some commentary on the game and a short note on what's next.

to get an idea of what the comic looks like, here is page 2:

Nice write up…I am on the fence about getting NUTS! I have Rally Round the King by THW and I like it for fantasy and I play almost exclusively solo so their rules appeal on that level. However, I play Chain of Command quite a bit and I don't know if I need another WWII skirmish game. I will keep an eye on your blog for future aar's.

Great write up. Looks like a fun fight!

Very good, good fun. it just struck me that this would be a good way for a company to do a tutorial on their rules (I might have a go at that) to help learning.

I was in my local high street newsagent the other day and saw some Commando books – the first I have seen for perhaps a decade or so.

Brilliant job Shaun! I haven't played NUTS! in a long time but its great for that size of a game. Looks like you enjoyed it anyway. How did you find "Comic Life" to work with? Your machine was a little underpowered ….well thanks for persevering with it! I hope you have a few more of the campaign in that style :)

Markandy – RRtK is very 'pure' (for want of a better term) in that the mechanic of pass 2d6, pass 1d6 pass 0d6 is used for every reaction tsst and consistently applied. NUTS! does have this mechansim too for some reaction tests, but you can roll extra dice (leader dice, cover) and some of the test are based on opposed dice rolling where one side rolls some dice as does the other and 1 to3 is a success; most successes wins. I found NUTS! had more mechanics to it than RRtK. fun but different.

War Panda – NUTS! does work well at this level. Comic Life was very easy. I could not believe how simple it was to cut some pictures, create a page, drag them in and then add speech bubbles, text and effects. The only trick I am still learning is to crop the pictures so that when they end up on the page they show OK; I need to think ahead on where the text is going to go on the picture. Getting better at it though. I am hoping to do one game a week but we shall see…

Looking forward to it…and I agree Comic Life is a pleasure to work with…
