My sons stopped by on Sunday afternoon, and I was pleasantly surprised when they suggested a game of "Man o' War."

We began collecting and painting our Games Workshop Man o' War fleets back in 1994, when both sons were still in Elementary School. Over the years we got in some games periodically, but as they got older it seemed we played less and less often.

We set up the fleets on the dining room table and had a fairly-large fleet action -- Empire versus a combined Dwarven-Bretonnian fleet; about 975 points per side.

Here is a link to some photos of our game on Flickr:

Nicely painted ships, and a fun game. Good job!

Ditto that — great looking fleets and game!

Too bad GW kill this game off back in the mid to late 1990's.

I just managed to snag a partial Dark Elf fleet, but still need a Black Ark. I do, however, already have an Uncharted Seas Bone Griffons fleet. Does anyone have the width and nose to tail length of the Black Ark?. If a ship already in my collection will stand in for a model that runs in excess of $50 USD, I'm all for it.

GypsyComet -- wish I could help but we have no Dark Elf fleet units in our collection.

Great-looking castings though! Good luck to you in your quest.

The Black Ark is 97mm long and 23mm wide.

The Database section of The Sea of Claws Yahoo group ( link ) includes a file that lists the lengths and widths of all of the MoW ships. It's worth joining the group for that file alone, but there are also many additional files on the group, including photos of ships, fleets, and games; rules clarifications; ideas for new rules, fleets, and ships; scratchbuilt, converted, and proxied ships; ship counters, including semi-3D paper ships; and on and on. (And, yes, we members of the group absolutely hate the new Yahoo groups format, too.)

I scratchbuilt my Dark Elf fleet long ago using Sculpy for the monsters and front of the Black Ark,, stuff out of the bits box for the towers on their back and the aft hull of the Black Ark.

GypsyComet -- looks like a Dark Elf Black Ark currently for sale on eBay. A bit pricey, but looks nicely-painted.

Possibly of interest.
