The first trailer for the WW2 movie "Fury" about a US tank platoon in Germany towards the end of the war was shown at the World of Tanks forum at E3 Expo:

It looks like they put a lot of effort into getting the right equipment, but I'm sure that there'll be a lot of Bleeped texting, whining and moaning about the WW2 equivalent of "wrong facing on the lapels." grin

OK I will be seeing this. Wonder if we will see some German tanks? I agree Wyatt there will be some people that will just have to say oh they got this wrong. Look it is not M60 tanks painted up in WW II era markings so I am already happy.

They used the Bovington Tiger in the film. I was speaking to the museum director during a visit I made last year and Brad Pitt had just visited the museum. The Bovington chap was a bit concerned about letting his precious Tiger out for filming!

They used the Bovington Tiger in the film.

What, no T-55's masquerading as Tigers or a 'supernatural' Tiger tank? TMP link I can't wait already.

I visited the set last year and had a look around the workshops – they have built 3 Tiger superstructures to sit over APCs. They were using original blueprints and the vehicles looked really good.

Aside from the Bovy Tiger they also called in vehicles from private collections all over for the film – so no Pershings posing as Shermans in this film.

legatushedlius12 Jun 2014 3:45 a.m. PST

Unfortunately they are using Brad Pitt posing as an actor.

Andy ONeill12 Jun 2014 4:28 a.m. PST

I'll definitely want to watch that.

I think if you spend DECADES interested in something or other then when something pops up in front of you is "wrong" it'd be weird if you didn't notice it.
Not that you have to then go and whine.

I can entirely understand if someone sees…
Ooops.
It nearly slipped out.

Seriously though.
Looks like they took a lot more care than others have done.

The trailer looks very good.

Pizzagrenadier12 Jun 2014 5:16 a.m. PST

The thing that gets me is the proposed plot. It's always a dangerous mission behind enemy lines. Who the hell writes that crap? You know what's dangerous? The front line. You know, where the enemy is located and is trying to kill you? I hate that plot device for WWII. Hopefully the plot is better than that and that this is just a generic throw away line before the release. The footage shown so far doesn't imply that plot, but we'll see.

Skarper12 Jun 2014 7:07 a.m. PST

I think the 'behind enemy lines' plot is a way to avoid a cast of hundreds and massive battles all done by CGI.

I'll give this thing a chance but I'm expecting Saving Private Ryan with tanks – and that is not a complement.

We expect too much from war films – they will always disappoint 'us experts'.

TBH – I'm glad the money hasn't been wasted on more Spiderman or X-men trash..

corporalpat12 Jun 2014 7:30 a.m. PST

Looks good, but also probably typical Hollywood. I will wait for the reviews before watching it on the big screen.

Also, as a bullet counter from way back, (yes, I used to count the shots from John Wayne's six gun as a kid), veteran, and student of all things military as far back as I can remember, I reserve the right to point out the technical flaws in any movie I watch. Not really sure how this has come to be construed as whining.

so no Pershings posing as Shermans in this film

Hey, it's set in 1945, so they could legitimately use Pershings as Pershings!

War Panda12 Jun 2014 1:35 p.m. PST

I don't think I expect too much (… but I'm no real historical expert) but I think a real effort aimed at recreating history is always going to make a more interesting movie, no matter what period or genre.

But why do Hollywood feel they have to compromise historical realism (I mean even an effort at recreating social mannerisms and habits, expressions, slang, customs, terminology, grooming and costume.) I think Band of Brothers made a great effort to do just that and in doing so it recreated such an interesting world that my generation would not have been easily privy to. I hope this movie makes that effort at least.

tuscaloosa12 Jun 2014 2:42 p.m. PST

I see Shane from The Walking Dead is in the movie.

Can't trust that sucker, he'll sleep with your wife and then try to kill you…

Pizzagrenadier12 Jun 2014 3:56 p.m. PST

I don't think that they do behind enemy lines to avoid big budget battle scenes. The experience of a squad or tank crew at the sharp end is an intimite world of danger that takes place often in a very small space. Rather, I think it's simply a worn out trope used by lazy Hollywood because it sounds dangerous to a public not generally familiar or demanding of accurate battlefield portrayals.

It's not a war movie so much as war-ish.

Actually wondering if this isn't based on the Hammelburg raid? March 45 fits the time frame. Out of about 300 men in task force Baum 32 were killed and only about 35 made it back to US lines with the rest captured. All, or nearly all, the vehicles in the raid were destroyed. Small enough to be manageable. Certainly the results speak to the danger and certainly plenty of drama.

Pizzagrenadier13 Jun 2014 4:22 a.m. PST

Oh right, the raid ordered by Patton that went pear shaped. Supposedly to rescue his son in law. The entire force was captured and all vehicles lost.

If that's the case I will withhold judgment until it comes out.

Weasel13 Jun 2014 3:12 p.m. PST

I imagine it'll be fun to watch and probably a bit gimp as far as the plot goes.

Personal logo Mserafin Supporting Member of TMP13 Jun 2014 5:26 p.m. PST

I think by March 1945 the idea of a clearly defined "front line" was pretty arbitrary. It was pretty much anywhere you found Germans shooting at you.
