Yep. Played a 40k game once where my opponent had all proxy troops. Wooden cubes with a unit name on them. Way too hard to keep track of what was what. |

Historically my opponents have fielded torso-less legs if they bothered to show up for the game at all

Yes, sadly saw this way too often with opponents in games of 40K, WFB, and Warmachine. At least put the entire thing together. I can deal with not being painted but please let the figures be WYSIWYG. |

I've seen it. Used to play at a club in a hobby shop. Kid went out to the store, bought a Nurgley thing, ripped it open and dumped the pile of parts on the table. He didn't like that we all laughed at him. We usually play only painted, but friends busy with small kids etc. we'll cut some slack and allow them on table if they've at least been primed. |

I've seen cheese slices used as proxies for those Necron Monolith thingies. |

Too many times to count. I assign a morale penalty for any proxies the SECOND time they appear on my tables. (Once is excusable as they may need assembly/painting/etc) |

Then again I offer assembly and painting, so

In early editions of the 40K book at least, there was a passage that stated anything can be used to represent your troops: coins, counters, etc. YMMV. |

There was a kid at my old club who carried all his stuff inside hard cases. Inside the hard cases were ziploc baggies. Almost all his stuff had no arms. It was horrible. Horrible!!! |

There was an infamous incident involving a Lego representation of a cannon – in fact a galloper gun – in a WFB game at our club once. |
