Given that the 13th Century Mamluk Dynasty of Baybars was responsible for the demise of the Crusader States and the defeat of the Mongols' Persian advance, why do so few manufacturers reproduce 28mm Mamluke armies? |

Musketeer miniatures for 28mm and Legio Heroica for 15mm. It definitely would be nice to have a few more ranges to choose from. 3 of his battles make for very interesting reading. |

Manufacturers don't produce minis based on the historical success of one army or another, but on whether or not they will sell. As for me, I'm building armies for both sides based on the era of the Crusader states, and it can be hard to find the figures I want, relatively speaking. |

Musketeer Miniatures are very nice Bob I agree but they are not specifically Mamluk. I guess that is my point Ray, would not a specific range of Mamlukes sell? I think Essex Miniatures were the last to cast 25mm Mamlukes. What do you have in your Muslim collection? |

Got the same problem. Wich Islamic figures to use against the Fireforge crusaders ? |

I would have thought the new Gripping Beast Arab Spearmen and Archers set would be perfect. Not to mention their metal ranges. |

I guess any Napoleonic Mamlukes without firearms could be used. |

Ranges don't tend to be specifically labelled as Mamluk but then Western European figures for the same period aren't often specified by state either. Only where there are notable differences in an area do they need to be e.g. Spanish knights c.1250 are rather different to the rest of W. Europe. There are some specifically Mamluk bits of attire such as hats, but once they have donned their helmets then figures sold as 'Arab' or 'Saracen' or even Turkish will work for them. Changes in armour are more noticeable over a period of time rather than between Ayubbid Syria and Mamluk Egypt. |

Funny you should mention helmets swampster
.I have some pictures of heavy Mamluk's in helmets with long spikes on top. Does anyone know of any such figures? |

I use Gripping Beast and Perry in my Arab armies, and the gripping beast new plastic's are amazing. If you have other plastics from gripping beast, they are comparable with the unarmored ones, and their shields are the same size as the round shields from the viking/saxon packs, so their shield with two javelins attached makes a perfect bit for skirmisher's to hold as their shields. The dark ages inf box also has slings, a variant sword and more spears/uncovered heads with beards that work great for adding some spice to your GP plastic arabs. |
