Who makes the best 28mm figures for Crusaders and Saracens? I know about Gripping Beast, Crusader Miniatures, and Magister Militum.

Who else makes them. If you like a line of figures not mentioned above, tell me what you like about them.

I especially want to get Seljuk Turk army for SAGA (I already have the Byzantines),

Thanks.

Take a look at the Perry Miniatures metal line. I like them. Find them accurately proportioned, and have lots of character.

Perry has the best line of figures for Crusader/Saracen. The figures are on the small end of 28mm with excellent detail.

Musketeer Miniatures comes in a close second with Saracen line. Their figures are on the larger end of 28mm but with the same great detail.

If you are a fan of plastic, be sure to check out the FireForge kits.

Fireforge crusaders are great figures.

Perry, Black Tree and Artizan are in my collection.

Thanks guys. I should have specified that I'm only interested in metal figures.

In addition to Seljuk Turks, I'm also interested in the Knights Templars. Finding knights in armor isn't hard, but who makes the support figures, e.g. mounted and dismounte sergeants?

I really like the Perry Brothers figures. But there is one problem. I want to build a SAGA army where I need 8 infantry figures for unit and the Perry Brothers sell their infantry six to a pack. Does anyone know if they will sell individual figures to round out a unit?

I have a similar problem with Black Tree. I need cavalry units of 4 or 8 and they sell their cavalry 3 to a pack.

Artizan has Moors but no Crusaders.

I like Perry the best for detail, I like Old Glory the best for price. I think Gripping Beast are good quality, too.

Some of the Old Glory figures are a little shorter than the Grippng Beast figures. I'm not sure how OG compares to the Perry Brothers, Crusader Minis, Musketeer Minis, Black Tree, or Artizan.

Some of the OG are indeed on the smaller size…. I am thinking of the OG Muslim infantry in particular. I don't notice as much of a difference in the cav, but I don't have Crusader, Musketeer, Black Tree, or Artizan Crusades stuff for a personal comparison. I do have some Foundry Normans mixed in, they are a bit beefier than their OG infantry counter parts, but not so much to make me lose any sleep.

I have some OG Revolting Peasants which are larger, not as refined as the GB peasants I have…. but still, the Revolting Peasants are a lot of fun, all of the animated poses and such :)

Got to go with the Perry stuff, though the horses are, in my opinion, too delicately attached to the bases.

More pics on this blog under the labels scenarios, battle reports and Crusades project.

They look fantastic en masse, especially when the Turk has no infantry.

Incredible Sir. This is what wargaming is all about.

olicana,
Those flags on your Islamic side look great, might I ask where you got them from?

Thanks.

olicana07 Jun 2014 2:02 a.m. PST

They are a mix of flags from the Web, including some from a Yahoo Group files section (can't remember which), Little Big Man Studios, some sent by friends, and some that I made up (I believe one says, in Arabic, "Syrian Department of Tourism").

All have been fully over painted by hand in enamels, which is why you might not recognise some of them (as I frequently change the original colours).

Wow, that is VERY impressive!

Outstanding work!

A terrific set of figures. Congratulations, they must be a joy to play with. I'd love to see your crusader army if you have one.

Footsore is also an excellent choice:
