BMPT-72 nicknamed Terminator 2 At Russian Arms Expo 2013 defense exhibition in Nizhny Tagil (Russia), the Russian Defense Company Uralvagonzavod has unveiled a new version of its Terminator, fire support armoured fighting vehicle BMPT-72. The idea to build new heavily armed tank support vehicles emerged on the basis of experience acquired by the Russian military during the First Chechen War in North Caucasus, especially during the urban fighting in Grozny in 1995 when Russian troops lost a large number of combat vehicles to "guerrilla warfare" tactics used by Chechen separatists. As the first production of BMP-T, the BMPT-72 is based on the chassis of the Russian-made main battle tank T-72. The vehicle offers new protection and fire power especially in urban operations. The BMPT-72 is able to fight a full range of modern targets as main battle tank, armoured infantry fighting vehicles and other combat vehicles, dismounted infantry, and guided missile combat teams. The BMPT-72 is an extensive modernization of the world-famous T-72 main battle tank, also produced by Uralvagonzavod. Compared with the BMPT predecessor, the BMPT-72 has an improved fire control system and better turret weapon station protection. According to manufacturer Uralvgonzavod, the key advantage that the BMPT-72 gives to all the counties that operate T-72 tanks is that they can promptly and at minimal cost upgrade their armies to an ultra-modern level, and enhance capacity, mobility, protection and armament without purchasing new high-cost machines."

Alternatively they can train their army in combined arms tactics and not send armour into urban areas unsupported by infantry. |

When you have a conscript army with 2-year terms, it takes half the conscription period just to get your infantry up to Western standards. And that doesn't count specialty schools like tank operations, artillery, comms, etc. If you don't get to keep a trooper for more than two years, you cannot afford to spend that much time training them. You honestly need to spend maybe 6 months tops training them initially. |

Ascent, the 4th Armored and Republican Guard already do as you say. SOP seems to be an understrength company of T-72AVs and BMP-2s, with the tanks being used purely as infantry support platforms. They're doing a lot better; I personally forecast eventual victory. They won Homs, so that's a start. |

it wouldn't help any of the Arab militaries. their problem is they do not promote based on merit. Their Career officer Cadre is composed of members of the powerful tribes, with the highest ranks filled by sons of Sheikhs and other connected folks. there is no incentive to give power to anyone else because it would threaten the ascendency of the tribe. I have seen Qatari, Saudi, Omani, etc, etc and it's all the same. The Iranians (Persians) are a bit different, but only a half-step better. |

needs more armor on the weapons and weapon mounts or an RPG will take it out with one shot. |

Don't also forget if members of your tribe are taking exams you are duty bound to help them, even if you are an officer invigilating. That does wonders for boosting competency levels, and the Insha Allah philosophy also tends to a impede the adoption of a mindset in synch with the requirements of an effective modern military. |
