After a rough year in the academic job market it is highly likely I will be joining the faculty at a Turkish University in Instabul. So I was wondering if there is a historical war-gaming scene there, especially in DBA, Napoleonic and 19th century war-gaming. With Respect Konstantinos Travlos |

Take something light, forgiving, and portable with you -- 1/72 or 1/32 scale plastic figures for skirmish gaming. At University, there should be plenty of potential interest in historical gaming -- all that is needed is the spark. YouTube link |

Islamic art is (or was in the Middle Ages) usually floral, and isn't allowed to represent humans and animals lest the 2nd Commandment (No graven images) be violated. I believe the Turks whitewashed the mosaics in Hagia Sophia when they captured Constantinople. Given this, I have wondered if there is any miniature wargaming in Moslem countries. Grelber |

Given this, I have wondered if there is any miniature wargaming in Moslem countries. Turkey does not have an official religion. There people are mostly muslim with Eastern Orthodox a distant second. You will probably find gaming somewhere in Istambul. I suspect you might even get some interest with DBA since Turkey has a very rich and varied Ancient history. BTW, Chess is (or at least) big over there. My dad loved to play. He was from the mainland in Afyon. Good luck in your new job! John |

Hello there. A friend of mine from our local gaming club notified me about this thread. We do have a wargaming club in İstanbul. It is called Karargah (HQ in Turkish). I can gladly answer any questions you might have. Our club is quite extensive as we have a good number of members that play many tabletop games. Flames of war, star wars, warhammer fantasy/40k, napelonic you name it. Couple of links: link link Most of our members know English and we have a couple of foreign members too so language barrier is more or less nonexistent. |

He was never keen on me playing wargames so i was pretty skeptical. Glad to see gaming is live and well over there! |

Great! It looks like I will be able to push toy soldiers around. I know there are board-wargamers, but did not know much about miniatures gaming. But it seems I am gold. Grunteufel That looks and sounds great!
I have the following collections (or working on them) Klingon Armada Spaceship gaming 15 ships (Federation, Klingon and ships that can be used as proxies for whaterver we want.) 15 pre-dreadnaughts 1/2400 (slowly building up the navies of the First Balkan war) 6 DBA armies painted (2 more in the works) 12 ships for Napoleonic Sail combat 1/2000 (using Kiss me Hardy) 1 28mm 3-battlaion brigade of French Napoleonic Infantry (the start of a long term collection of 19th century battalions for ahistorical gaming using Black Powder) 1 Anglo-Saxon Saga warband plus the rules. 2 6mm Baccus Napoleonic Armies (French and Prussians) Honverse Ships (two small fleets) So lots of stuff for me to contribute. I have Warhammer but I probably will leave that in Greece on my way to Turkey for annual mega games with my old firends. I also have a stalled 15mm Seven Years War project, which I might not bring and just sell as I have been unable to get it started. |
