Results of a playtest with a 1500 point battle between DA Deathwing terminators and Space Wolves. For the record, I lost (though technically I had one figure left on the table when the game ended).

Regards,
Blake

Sorry for the loss, but try playtesting it with an army that isn't so expensive in points cost next time. You couldn't afford to lose even a handful of Terminators in a 1,500-point game, especially when a large portion of the points in your Deathwing army is taken up by the Land Raider alone.

Seventh edition? I think the last I played was 3rd edition. Does it wrap around again when it hits 10?

I hope the winner of your games buys Pizza grin

when a large portion of the points in your Deathwing army is taken up by the Land Raider alone.

Land Raiders he had two of them, so 1/3 of his army points were in two models, which his opponent destroyed with ease.

So knowing that he took Belial there were not a lot of Terminators in the rest of the army.

I would never take a Land Raider since they are not worth the point cost.

Better off putting more Marines on the table, or allies.

Herm! 1 figure left on the table at the end..
I've played chess and checkers and had more pieces left after losing.
So 7th ed is similar to the previous eds and people play to the last figure still?

Mithmee is right. For an all Terminator army to have a chance against a more balanced army you have to choose your forces wisely and plan your strategy carefully. Even so, it's pretty much an "all or nothing" game. Maybe Blake gambled on using his two Land Raiders to transport his Assault Terminators into close combat in the first turn but got shot up first. Who knows?

So true because even with a 2+ save if I make you roll 12 saving rolls you will roll those "1's"

Usually around 2 failed saves for those 12 saving rolls.

Now take the fact that I would could field around 150-160 Imperial Guard for 1500 points that is a lot of saving rolls that they would need to make.

They have apparently made vehicles more robust in this edition; they have more HP and can only be destroyed outright on a penetrating hit by AP1 or AP2 weapons (which since you pretty much need these to even dent a Land Raider's all round 14 armor is a bit of a moot point). Personally I would probably take more guys too but Land Raiders are pretty tough customers.

why oh why are people still drinking the kool aid?

@Blake,

Did the SW army insert meltagun troops close to your Land Raiders via drop pod? With Terminators you unfortunately don't have the manpower to protect your tanks from deep striking tank hunting squads .

As a Space Wolves and Ultramarines player myself, I must say that the Wolves are probably the most versatile Chapter currently. It must have been a tough battle.

Mithmee02 Jun 2014 8:14 p.m. PST

but Land Raiders are pretty tough customers.

Except that the most common Special Weapon is the handy dandy Melta Gun.

Oh and it is very easy to get them within range of Land Raiders.

Strength 8 plus 2d6's usually pops them quite well.

Plus add in some bikers with Multi-Melta and you can say goodbye to your Land Raider usually by turn two if not sooner.

Yeah, deep strike a couple of meltagunners within 6" from a LR and it's toast. A cheap S8 AP1 weapon with 2D6 (gets an extra D6 Armor Pen if within half the weapon's range) can take out a 250 point sink.

No way I would bring in one, much less two, LR's in a 1,500-point game.

Mithmee03 Jun 2014 12:48 p.m. PST

Yup that is so true, which is why I like Space Marine Predators.

They can bring the firepower and are far cheaper than Land Raiders.
