…in relation to NOOK, Kindle, Overdrive.

I still have several of the old BAEN Sci-Fi CDs, prior to their updating to Kindle and Nook, but I've heard that some of the old versions convert almost automatically to Kindle or Nook if you know which is which.

Do any of you fine Ffolkes know which readers convert/plug into Nook or Kindle or is there a website you can point me to that has some sort of conversion tables?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

.mobi works with Kindle, .epub works with nook. For Kindle you can email to your device/app email or plug in your Kindle and move over manually or use a program like Calibre (which you should download if you own an actual Kindle). Not sure how Nook works, I would assume you could move it over manually.

If you send to the kindle/app via the email you get the syncing ability- I've used this for Honorverse titles from the Baen CD I got with SITS.

Friends use Calibre to convert all sorts of documents to make them readable on a vide variety of e-readers including Sony, Nook, Kindle and such. Otherwise, just as Zagloba says, just check what the tag is on the files you get for 'free' with the reader and use the same.

You can calibre download here:
calibre-ebook.com/download

I use it mostly for pdf-files and epub-files, to convert to mobi (I have a Kindle).

Works great !

I will third Calibre, outstanding eBook management software, with a very active support and development team.

Thank you, all.

I'm quite adept at transferring files to and from my NOOK, no Kindle yet but that's in the offing and I do have the Kindle App.

Just a shame to let the older Baen Ebooks lie dormant since I couldn't immediately recognize which .xxx matched well w/Kindle, Nook and Overdrive.

I'll start exploring next time I visit the library or FIU.

Very much appreciated! : )

Wish I was … nothing has ever happened when I plugged the USB cable into my PC …

You have to turn your NOOK on (including getting past any opening codes you may have installed), after connecting to the USB port…only then will it show up on your PC as a "removeable disk".

If you've tried that, your computer may be too old to recognize a newer version, so you might have to go to the library to do the connection, failing that, take it to B&N and have them show you or see what is wrong.
