Many thanks to you too boys!. (smile).

I forget to said that in each battle I take note about each casualty of it.

So, when that unit who fought has to return to battle again, I have the number of soldiers still in the ranks.
For each new battle I increased a 10% of the number of each unit.
For example, if a Batallion have 350 soldiers, next battle they can increase their number in 35 more. BUT… if they have suffered heavy casualties, for example 100 soldiers, the number of troops ready for combat in the next battle would be 285 men.

Who are those choosen?
Firt all who became "dead", then those who became "heavy wounded" and finally those as "Wounded".

As I take note each rank (NCO-Banners-Officers), it's possible that they can increase their number in soldiers but not in officers.

If the "unit" have more than 35% of casualties (even with the increase of the new recruis) for their original number, they automatically went to the "reserve" and cannot fight that battle.

That's why even I have more than 40.000 thousand painted soldiers, my last battles involved maybe half of them.

There are whole Divisions that suffered so many casualties that have to be on "reserve".

Ah!. And I give a name to all the Batallion+Cavalry Company+Division+ General Staff + some importan characters (for example there is a Polish Sargent in the French Legion or a Captain in the Scots Greys) because when I finished the battle, the next month I wrote a new "chapter" in my "history" which involved the action and the characters performance.
Yes, even love!. (smile).

So, I have many stages for wargaming.

1° Buyed miniatures (My pleasure. As I have to travel all time I can buyed them in many countries).

2° Conform a unit (from different boxes).

3° Give them a nomination and the name of their chiefs.

4° The convertion part (one I enjoyed a lot). For example you can see my Mamelukes or those "Dio lo Volve" that I have made each head by hand (hats). Even the Courassiers have feathers hand made.

5° The painting (before a research in my books – I have dozens of them) I choose one and began the painting.
I choose the first 120 figures and I paint them color by color. I began first with heads, faces and hands, then the jacket, pants, etc…
When I finished I put them "on parade" waiting for the other two or three companies. When I finished them all I began to pain their faces (hair, bandages, face pin, etc).

At the end, I take note of the unit in my books.

6° The unit went to plastic bags and then to big cardboard boxes.

Thanks again.

All very splendid indeed! I also play a lot of games in Napoleonic Africa…although using Flintloque fantast figures.

There is a great deal of potential in African Exploration in the early 1800's.

Muy bueno!!!

TamsinP03 Jun 2014 5:12 a.m. PST

That is truly spectacular Armand.

As others have said, please do post pictures and reports of your games here in future – it's not often we get to see such things.

Tango01 Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2014 10:41 a.m. PST

Thanks to you too boys.

I would tried TamsinP, the problem actually is that I have not wargame since a year ago because of my work.

I have to travel all time.

Armand-

Loevly work…

Also, an apology.

Having now seen your minis and one of your games, I rescind part of an old argument we had where I challenged the notion that you never posted anything of your own; I thought you were just someone stirring the pot for giggles.

No one should have to prove anything, of course, but Arteis' thread makes me realize you're trying to be part of the community, not Bleeped text on it. I won't necessarily agree with your posting habits henceforth, but you won't receive any further grief from me about it.

Mea Culpa

Jeff

Great stuff Tango!!

Even a short montage like MC LeSingeDew does with his battles would be very appreciated.

Raśl, You have many friends, and this post has won you more understanding and consideration. I enjoyed seeing your mega battle. I do the same thing you do by placing my soldiers on parade.

Like many others, I encourage you to share more. It is regrettable that your job and constant travel affects your gaming, but at least you use the time productively to share with us what interests you.

Artemis, thanks for getting this started. Rafael Pardo, thanks for hosting Tango's piccies on your blog.

Woolshed Wargamer03 Jun 2014 4:25 p.m. PST

Tango – do you ever worry about bumping the table, or the cat jumping up and knocking them over?

War Panda03 Jun 2014 5:11 p.m. PST

Amazing Raśl …Tango :)

I am truly amazed above all by your humility. Here you are posting away showing other people's work while all the time you have this treasure of your own! Beautifully painted and a true pleasure to look at my friend.

If you felt comfortable about it I would love to see more of them and even read a Tango AAR!

I'd like to join with all the others to compliment you for your amazing collection! thumbs up

It's always a bit of a contest to post faster than him who is the internet!

Away from that do I enjoy your excellent approach to the hobby. Kepp it up!

Dear Jeff W… apologies not needed my friend.
I understand.

Dear Brian… I have no cat since three years ago. He changed my wargames a lot! (smile). But as I loved so much my little cat, I have the "Franciscan patience" to put on foot each soldier again when he jump and explore my battlefield. The problem is with the terrain. She loves to play with my trees and then push them off the wargame table for my Beagle dog may destroy them (smile). Closed my desk room was a solution when I didn't travel so much.

My dear freind War Panda, many thanks for your kindly words.(smile).

I would tried in the near future to search the pics and "history" of my last battle and post it here.

Want to said that my dear friend Rafa Pardo was who encouraged me to take pics and put them in his great blog.
I was a fan of his great battles and once I decided to contact him… we have inmediatly a nice friendship between us till today.

He also offered me (as mon ami Arteis) to have my own blog.
But I declined as today.

I'm feel so confortable at TMP as my own house.
There are so great people here that I admired that's difficult to quit the site.

Bill was always a gentlemen and good person with me.
Nothing more than thanks for him (specially his "franciscan patience" with me!. Ha!Ha!.

Ah! I forget one step in my thread about how I made my units.

When all the soldiers are painted, I separate all those that will be officers and "sweepstake" the ranks according to the dice. (I painted the "little stars" in their shoulders)
Then each "soldier" have the chance to be NCO by dice too.
My units has only Corporals, Sargents and S. Mayor
Banners can be junior officers, NCO or even veteran soldiers.

Thanks again my friends for your support. (smile).

Spectacular amount of work involved. Takes true dedication. It is a shame that your work reduces your chance to game. I guess that all the travelling means you have times sat in hotel rooms with a computer in need of something to keep you sane. So you browse the internet for interesting things and then share them with us. Thanks for sharing Tango :)

I'm sure Henry Hyde would love your work, being very old school.

My friend… you cannot imagine! (smile).

Not only hotels… a lot of plane hours!! (smile).

As I not accepted any of the "classic" entertainments that are granted to senior executives … I prefer our hobby.(smile).

Armand, looks like your collection can be featured in a certain magazine:

picture

If you put in half the effort in painting, adding to and showcasing your collection of toy soldiers on TMP as you put into searching the worldwide web for news and other information "of possible interest" to TMP members, you would make a lot of us much happier.

My Gawd, after the hooplah here is Tango again and just "One of the Boys" or girls as the case mey be. I will say I do enjoy getting to know a little more about our omipresent Tango and his passions for miniatures.
Oh and BTW, I can empathize with you regarding the loss of your beloved little beagle. I had two large lovable Labs, a black and a yellow, whom we lost several years ago. After 18 years, it is is like losing a member of the family.

Hey thanks for bumping this Armand.

I can't believe I didn't comment at the time Arteis posted this thread (props to you Arteis!).

Armand, your passion and energy are truly inspirational; not only with respect to your figures and the way you game, but also your phenomenal contribution to this site.

I salute you sir.

Markconz07 Mar 2021 3:11 a.m. PST

Wow Tango/Armand, I can't believe you do all this posting of other peoples stuff and don't share more of your own! What a wonderful tale of toy soldiery and passion you have here. I look forward very much to seeing more of your latest event (and wish you had a blog for it all, including your writing!)

This also creates some nostalgia for the Napoleonic figures I started with many years ago:

I keep asking him to show his work and talk about his gaming!! After all the gazillion posts of other peoples stuff, I have always wondered why he does not post more of his own. I would love to see and hear about this side of the Tango story.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP18 Apr 2021 10:56 a.m. PST

Thanks for raising this again.

He is feeling beleaguered, right now.

I get messages from him as to how despondent he feels, as he is being marginalised. But I know there is that counterargument, which I have never really understood myself. He adds content. Take it or leave it. Why he does it, I have no idea. My personal advice to him via PMs has always been get out there and find another interest in life.

TMP is far from welcoming for him right now and that is entirely within the rights of the editor and his staff. They created this forum. If it then implodes…..OK.

Like you I have found it great to hear more about Tango the human being, not what I originally thought was just a search engine.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP19 Apr 2021 7:20 p.m. PST

I hope he hangs in. He does post some good stuff and I appreciate him. But I agreed with others that it was just too much. Balance in all things is good.

His whole gaming system sounds fascinating and he has a huge collection. A unique character who has a place here. Even just the occasional report on a battle would be great!
