In other news (and I'm a bit late with this), Farley Mowat, author of the second-best memoir to come out of WW2, died this month. He was an infantry platoon leader with 1st Canadian Division, slogging up the Italian peninsula. And contributed to society in many more ways after the war. |

Yes, I read this in the paper a few days ago. He was quite the chap. His books about his experiences in WW2 are quite compelling. May he rest in happiness. link |

By the end of the war he was taken out of the front line company and given an intelligence job. Word is he actually snuck a V2 rocket, among other things, back to Canada with no one else aware of it. |
